Will Andrew Garfield return with Tobey Maguire in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’?
Spider-Man: No Way Home promises a dimensional free for all with our boy, Peter Parker (Tom Holland). After his identity was leaked to the world following Spider-Man: Far From Home, the web-slinging hero heads to Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to see if there’s a magical way to erase the world’s memory and keep his loved ones safe. Unfortunately, things get weird when the spell goes awry.
Don’t things always get weird around here? Fans can expect to see classic Spider-Man movie bad guys such as Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx’s Electro in the upcoming multidimensional thrill ride. What fans really want to know, however, is if we’re going to see our previous Peter Parker’s Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield team up with Holland’s own MCU version of the character.
Fans are either very certain (based on supposed leaks from the film) or wishing really hard to see Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Ultimately, we’re probably not going to know until we see the film once & for all if these Spideys will appear. Recently, Garfield had an interview with Variety about his upcoming film The Eyes of Tammy Faye Baker. There was some Spidey talk as well.
What did Andrew Garfield say about Spider-Man: No Way Home?
Andrew Garfield said on the rumors of him appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, “[I]t’s important for me to say on the record that this is not something I’m aware I am involved in. But I know I’m not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don’t know what’s happening. No matter what I say, I’m fucked. It’s either going to be really disappointing for people or it’s going to be really exciting.”
Now, of course, this wouldn’t be the first time that an actor had said one thing about an upcoming MCU film when something totally different was actually happening. Garfield has been consistent in his denial that he’s appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It is possible that he could appear using old footage or whatever. Technology is weird, people. You just got to go with it.
Still, fans feel that No Way Home is going to piggyback off the success of the wildly successfully animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which did see multiple Spider-People share the screen together. Seeing the three previous live-action Spider-Man actors on screen would definitely be a ginormous draw to the MCU film. Honestly, this is a “hope for the best, but not too much” situation.
Could they appear?
Look, if you can somehow break into Marvel level secrecy and give us confirmation one way or the other. That’ll be great. The film would be cool if Peter was facing off against villains from other universes solo. It would be cool if he had help in the form of other Spideys. It would be cool if it was just him and his friends. So long as the MCU doesn’t eff it up? It should be fine.
It would be great, as a fan, to see Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield get proper send-offs, of a sort, as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Maguire’s last turn in the role was Spider-Man 3, which sure was meme-worthy. Garfield, well, Garfield was done dirty with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and his franchise unceremoniously getting the kibosh put on it.
Letting them have a proper good-bye with the character? We’re more than down to see it. Will it happen? We can give a hearty shrug and say, “You tell us.”
