When does Yellowstone return? What does this mean for Kevin Costner’s net worth

Kevin Costner has had a remarkable career. He was arguably the biggest movie star on the planet during the late 1980s and early 90s, with films like The Untouchables (1987), Field of Dreams (1989) and The Bodyguard (1992) dominating the box office and delighting fans. Things slowed down for Costner in the 2000s, but he’s rebounded in a huge way thanks to Yellowstone.

Since premiering in 2018, Yellowstone has become a television phenomenon. In addition to consistently high ratings, the show has spawned multiple spinoffs and earned dozens of award nominations. Since Costner is the star of the show, one can’t help but wonder how much it has impacted his net worth. Is the actor richer than ever?

Let’s investigate.

Who do you think should replace Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in 'The Bodyguard' remake? One A-list singer has a very interesting idea.

What is Kevin Costner’s net worth in 2023?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Costner has an estimated net worth of $250 million. This is an impressive number, but an unsurprising one given the success that he’s amassed since he made his film debut in 1981. His films have grossed nearly $3 billion at the worldwide box office, and he’s served as the director and producer of several of them, which only adds to his earnings.

Variety published a feature on TV salaries in 2022, with an emphasis on actors who command the biggest paychecks. Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone were near the top of the list, netting $1 million per episode for 1923 and The King of Tulsa, respectively, but Costner had them both beat. He’s currently the highest-paid actor on TV, earning a whopping $1.3 million per episode of Yellowstone.

So to answer our own rhetorical question, yes: Costner is richer than ever due to Yellowstone. He’s made so much off the show, in fact, that he’s outearning the few actors who were actually bigger than him in his 90s heyday.

How does Costner make his money?

Costner is an actor first and foremost, as evidenced by his staggering Yellowstone salary. That said, he’s managed to supplement his $250 million net worth through additional means. He owns a 160-acre estate in Aspen, Colorado, and Daily Mail has confirmed that he rents out the estate (known as “The Dunbar Ranch”) to the public.

Renting out the Dunbar Ranch means gaining access to a mansion with 12 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a sledding hill and a baseball field. The latter is particularly fitting, given Costner’s history with sports films like Bull Durham (1988) and For the Love of the Game (1996).

The Dunbar Ranch can be rented for $36,000 a night, so clearly the actor is making a nice chunk of change on the side. Furthermore, it’s a perfect extension of his Yellowstone character, as he spends most of the show guarding the biggest ranch in the United States.

When does Yellowstone return?

Yellowstone has become the TV equivalent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in that there are seemingly more and more spinoff shows that flesh out the history of the Dutton family. There’s 1883 and 1923, both of which are set during the time periods of their respective titles. Then there’s 6666, which is an upcoming spinoff that will focus on the formation of the Four Sixes Ranch, and Bass Reeves, which will spotlight the titular character.

With all these titles floating around, it can be easy to lose sight of the original show and when it’s set to return to Paramount. The good news is that it’s more popular than ever, which means it will almost certainly get renewed by the network. The bad news is that the season 5 finale aired on January 1, which means it will be a while before we get season 6.

There’s not an official return date for Yellowstone, but based on the rollout of previous seasons, we can safely assume that it will be sometime in November. Both seasons 4 and 5 premiered in November, and continued through to the following January. Given the success that Paramount has had with this model, it’s unlikely they will change it.
