How many “prison-like” houses does Ellen DeGeneres own?
What a shame it is to be Ellen DeGeneres. Trapped in her own multi-million dollar home where if she gets sick of that one, she can drive off to one of her other several homes she owns with her wife Portia de Rossi. Not to mention the fact that they’ll probably sell off this house after flipping it like they’ve done in the past.
Back in 2003, Ellen bought a modest 4 bedroom, 4 and a half bath house when The Ellen DeGeneres Show started, and since then, has been flipping houses and selling them for huge profits since. A lot of big name celebrities have bought houses that Ellen and Portia renovated over the years.
Of course, flipping houses and actually owning and living in them are two completely different things. So while Ellen has owned several houses over the years, what houses does she currently own, and is she planning on continuing her house flipping ways?
The Montecito house
If you’ve been watching The Ellen DeGeneres Show in quarantine, you’re familiar with this house. The Balinese-style mansion Ellen and Portia bought just last year has some very unique design choices.
From floor to ceiling windows, to bamboo ceilings in some parts of the house, it doesn’t seem like your traditional millionaire home. But then you remember it has five bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a walk in closet in every bedroom, an infinity pool, and a private cabana with a gym inside.
Ellen and Portia bought the house for $27 million in 2019, and we wouldn’t be surprised if they keep this one to themselves for a while. It’s definitely a different take on the usual Hollywood mansion.
The Beverly Hills mansion
Bought from Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo, this Tudor-style mansion is the most recent addition to Ellen DeGeneres’ list of houses. Dropping $45 million on this home, Levine had just finished renovating it after living in the house for only a year, so maybe Rossi and DeGeneres will add their own personal touch and continue renovations.
A five bedroom, 12 bathroom mansion, this home truly is the stereotypical Hollywood mansion. With way too many outdoor seating areas, a screening room, crown molding on every wall, and an all steel kitchen, this is what people think when they think of a mansion.
The horse ranch
No surprise, the millionaire talk show host also owns her own private ranch in LA as well. Ellen has made it clear over the years that she is an advocate for animals, so it makes sense for her to own an equestrian ranch. Bought in 2013, this ranch has plenty of space for any kind of event.
Originally built in the 20s, DeGeneres wrote in her interior design book Home about how she wanted to keep the aesthetic while updating the buildings to modernize them. So the ranch still feels like it’s out of the 20s design-wise, just with modern electricity and WiFi. With plenty of cabins and barn space, it’s truly a getaway dream.
The antique barn estate
Their most recent addition to their real estate empire, this Montecito estate was bought in 2020 by the couple with the sole purpose of renovating it. Originally two barns from the 1700s shipped over piece by piece from England, this gorgeous estate has a true rustic charm to it.
As the listing advertised it, it’s truly an escape to the forest and feels like a nature getaway with all the foliage around it. Literally within months, Ellen and Portia put this house back up for sale after giving it some well needed love. Allegedly, Ariana Grande bought the home from the couple.
