Are DCEU upcoming movies getting leaked by their own stars?
Leaks are common in Hollywood. Let’s rephrase that. Leaks are a necessary evil that studios need to contend with. Given the nature of on-location shooting amongst other things, there’s always someone with a phone who can quickly snap an image of a TV show or a movie filming. That’s what happened with the upcoming DCEU movie, The Flash.
Sometimes, films recognize that leaks are inevitable, especially when they take place in huge public spaces. Instead, they try to get around that by doing costume reveals or by teasing things. They take control of the narrative ahead of time on social media. It’s definitely something that more big films could stand to learn.
Photos leaked from the set showing Michael Keaton reprise his role as Bruce from Batman (1989). We also got our first look at Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and that? Woof. She has an awesome haircut, but that costume is not good. So why are some of DCEU’s upcoming movies getting leaked? Well, honestly, it comes down largely to chance. Here’s what you need to know.
Are the stars doing the leaking?
Actors, dear reader, are people too. This means that they are prone to mistakes. Over at Marvel, Tom Holland & Mark Ruffalo have been in the hot seat for leaks whether purposeful or accidental. To the point that Tom Holland has become something of a meme for leaking things about his movies. It’s a joke that often appears when fans want something to drop.
DCEU, however, hasn’t really had its actors reveal or leak too much. At least, not on the level of Holland & Ruffalo. To be fair, leaks that can be traced back can have big consequences to a star’s career. Many of these blockbuster films keep their spoilers under some tight, tight lock and key. To the point where if stuff does “leak” from the stars, then you need to wonder if it was staged or not.
Either way, the DCEU stars are not leaking the upcoming movies. Actors, honestly, know what’s on the line for them if they have a reputation for being a serial leaker. No, leaks for upcoming DCEU movies are either from people on set snapping some photos or people walking by with the decision to take a couple of candid shots of the action. It’s either or at this point.
Stop the leaking
Even though leaks happen, especially for outdoor scenes, The Flash had two pretty big ones. Black Adam, which is also filming, hasn’t had any major leaks yet. So maybe this film team is feeling the pressure? Either way, The Flash movie produced by Barbara Muschietti asked fans to stop leaking images, especially those featuring Sasha Calle’s Supergirl costume.
Honestly, The Flash could probably learn from another one of the upcoming DCEU movies currently in production: Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Director David F. Sandberg recognized that the leaks would happen so he showcased the costumes from the film with a family photo of the superpowered main cast. That’s probably the smartest way to handle it.
Listen, we’ve seen Sasha Calle’s Supergirl suit. Fans are already cringing about it. (It’s . . . it’s a choice. Why does the CW version look better in comparison to the movie? Don’t you have a bigger budget for these things?) So take the picture, show it how it would look in post, or see if something can be done. Because we’re gazing at those weird little ab decals or whatever in a bit of horror.
