All Quiet on the Western Front
It is the story of German high school students who, falling under the influence of patriotic propaganda, went to the front in World War I. But when the heroes found themselves on the battlefield, all their enthusiasm evaporated – yesterday’s schoolchildren faced disappointment and realized they were just cannon fodder in this brutal war. In his film, Edward Berger has tried as much as possible to reflect the events of the source material and convey the pain of the “lost generation. But in doing so, the German director takes the viewer to the front in real-time, making him an unwitting witness to the horrors of war, as in “1917.”
Wendell and Wilde.
The plot of Henry Selick’s new animated film centers on two evil and mean-spirited demon brothers, Wendell and Wilde, who try to make a deal with a 13-year-old orphan girl to get her to help them infiltrate the world of the living. In addition, an exorcist nun attempts to thwart the dark forces. Director Henry Selick gave us such Gothic masterpieces as “Coraline in Nightmareland” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” His latest film, Wendell and Wilde, was produced by the master of modern horror, Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope), who also voiced one of the demons. On the other hand, Wendell speaks in the voice of former comedian Keegan-Michael Key.

Enola Holmes 2
Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister Enola, played by “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown, starts her detective agency, but the heroine doesn’t succeed due to outside circumstances. She almost gives up but is approached for help by a girl who asks to find her missing sister. Enola plunges into the work of the detective, but her first case turns out to be very dangerous, so she is forced to turn to her brother Sherlock for help. The detective film, the sequel to 2020, which is both a suspenseful action flick and a feminist thriller, is again directed by Harry Bradbeer, who has worked on several episodes of Mean Girls and Killing Eve. Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham Carter return to their roles. David Thewlis, who everyone knows as Professor Lupin from “Harry Potter,” will also appear in the film.
Miracle
The dramatic film, based on the novel by writer Emma Donoghue, is set in 1862. An eleven-year-old girl has been refusing food for months and yet feels fine. Trying to figure out the phenomenon will be London nurse Lib Wright, played by Florence Pugh (“Solstice,” “Little Women,” “Black Widow”). “Miracle” is the latest work by Chilean director Sebastian Lelio (“Gloria Bell,” “Fantastic Woman”), who won the 2018 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. The intricate detective thriller immerses the viewer in strange and disturbing events unfolding against a backdrop of cold and bleak Irish landscapes.
1899
In 1899, a group of migrants traveled by ship from London to New York. Along the way, they encounter another boat that has been missing for weeks. The heroes investigate the ship and notice that something creepy and unexplainable is going on. “1899” is a mystical puzzle with elements of a time travel thriller that probably won’t be easy to solve. Yantier Friese and Barana bo Odara, director and screenwriter of “Darkness,” worked on the series. Emily Beecham (“Cruella”) and Anairin Barnard played the lead roles.
Wednesday
The mystical detective series from dark storyteller Tim Burton is about growing up as Wednesday, a strange girl with pigtails from the oddball, infernal Addams family. The heroine enrolls in a college where she will be helped to discover her supernatural powers. Not only will she find her calling, but she will figure out a dangerous maniac. Wednesday is played by rising movie star Jenna Ortega (“Nanny. Queen of the Damned,” “Scream,” “X”). Catherine Zeta-Jones played the role of the extravagant sorceress Morticia, and Christina Ricci will also appear in the series. It is worth noting that the members of the Addams Family by Burton were very canonical and as if descended from the pages of gothic comic books. So the expectations for “Wednesday” are very high.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
The animated film is set in 1930s Fascist Italy, and a wooden puppet that dreams of becoming a human being is tried by evil men to be used as the perfect soldier.
Guillermo del Toro (Crimson Peak, The Shape of Water, Faun’s Labyrinth) reimagines Carlo Collodi’s famous tale, which means we are in for something truly dark, creepy, and sad. The characters in “Pinocchio” were voiced by Cate Blanchett, Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, David Bradley, and others.

Knives Out 2
In the sequel to the ironic detective film, detective Benoit Blank (Daniel Craig) travels to a private island in Greece where billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) gathers his friends. The detective has to solve a murder that took place at the party. When working on his films, director and screenwriter Ryan Johnson draws inspiration from the works of Agatha Christie, which means that the sequel “Get the Knives” will also have many dark mysteries that ambiguous characters try to hide. Incidentally, the film’s original title again refers to the music. Glass Onion is a 1968 song by The Beatles, but Knives Out refers to a Radiohead composition.
White Noise
The story centers on the level of university professor Jack Gladney, who is studying Adolf Hitler. The hero does not have enough time for his family at all, and he is depressed. Suddenly, not far from Gladney’s town, a train accident occurs, setting off alarming events that could lead to the apocalypse. The new film by “Marriage Story” author Noah Baumbach is based on Don DeLillo’s satirical novel “White Noise.” The opening film from the Venice Film Festival 2022 about the fear of death, according to critics, flirts with Spielberg’s earlier work and the paintings of Paul Thomas Anderson, which means it should be interesting. Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig played the lead roles in “White Noise.”
