Can Tiger Woods’s kids play golf? See the family practice together

We all knew that the time would come soon enough, where Tiger Woods would simmer his prowess and begin teaching his young cubs.

One can’t help but picture The Lion King’s Mufasa, walking Simba across the plain as he explains the great circle of life, teaching him lessons from his own life and from all passing kings.

How we would love an image of Charlie, Tiger’s 11-year old son bending down as he closely examines his putt with his Dad standing a few feet behind him, with the caption reading, “Everything the light touches is our kingdom.”

The comeback

It’s true that America loves a good comeback story, and the story of Tiger Woods’s redemption is perhaps the greatest sports story of the last decade.

After a scandalous divorce from his wife, Swedish model Elin Nordegren, Woods’ life seemed to crumble around him, right down to his once legendary golf game. The divorce was highly publicized, becoming a media event which lasted from 2009-2010.

With his mind breaking down on par with his body (pun intended), Woods’s demise on the golf course felt almost final nearly a decade after his sex scandal, turning this “must-watch-tv” legend into a “must-look-away” one.

However, after a triumphant surge in his golf game, capped off with Woods’s 2019 Masters win where he earned his 15th major, it’s clear Woods is now focused on helping his children on the course, establishing that same love & passion for the gentlemen’s game he developed at the same young age.

Charlie Woods

In 2020, Tiger Woods shared Charlie’s sudden interest in the game with GolfTV, explaining how “he’s starting to understand how to play”.

A video was recently posted on Twitter of Woods & his son Charlie, lined up with one another as they worked on their iron game at a driving range. With a smooth swing and decked out in swag, Charlie looks as pure a golfer as anybody, taking a page out of his dad’s book when it comes to attacking the course with style.

Charlie actually won a junior tournament back in August and is preparing to play alongside his dad in the upcoming PNC Championship, a tournament that pairs the world’s best golf pros with their family.

Family golf match

This is the first Tiger Woods has ever played in this tournament.

The field currently has multiple big-name golf pros, both who are currently playing and some who are retired, including Justin Thomas & his father, John Daly & his son, Bernhard Langer & his son, as well and many others joining the aforementioned Tiger Woods.

It will be no real surprise if the championship next month draws in its largest viewing crowd with the addition of Woods & his son, where Tiger Woods will once again earn the nickname that no competitive pro wants—the biggest draw in golf (pun #2).

Big shoes

Taking notice of Charlie Woods’s game is one of the greatest golfers of all time, Jack Nicklaus, noting at this year’s Masters Championship how Tiger is actually making Charlie practice with blade irons, an old school way to learn golf that doesn’t rely on new technology to get you out of jail free.

“He’s getting a really good swing,” Nicklaus noted.

Tiger’s daughter, twelve-year-old Sam, seems to be more enamored with soccer than golf, but still manages to swing the clubs with her dad & brother occasionally.

I think it’s safe to say that we’ll all be watching next month’s PNC Championship very closely, not only observing how much gas Tiger still has left in the tank but also watch the rise of young Charlie, making this feel-good story another positive step forward in the legend of Tiger Woods.

There will be another roar, one day. A roar that will echo throughout the golf kingdom. Whether that comes from Tiger himself or Charlie is the remaining question.  The 2020 PNC Championship is scheduled to take place from Dec 17th to the 20th at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes.
