Sentinels poster: a white-eyed, bearded ghoul bursts from crashing waves, one giant hand reaching toward the viewer

‘The Sentinels’ series premieres on YouTube from Studio Jadu

Studio Jadu launches the premiere of The Sentinels, an atmospheric animated psychological horror series, on YouTube. It centers on the premise of what happens when an unauthorized expedition lands on the world’s most forbidden island, the island hungry for human guilt. The first three episodes stream together as one continuous cut.

The narrative takes place in the Andaman Sea during Christmas 2004, at the precise moments just before the catastrophic Indian Ocean tsunami strikes the area. An illicit ferry strands a group of strangers off North Sentinel Island. The captain gives them two absolute rules that must be obeyed: never light a fire, and never touch anything on the island. When a passenger breaks this protocol, their ship is destroyed as a result. The survivors are left trapped between an uncontacted jungle, a lethal red mist, and an ancient presence that physically manifests their deepest buried trauma.

The psychological horror foundation of the series stems from its creator Ajinkya Bhasme who is a bestselling horror novelist as well as a practicing psychologist. He built the narrative around the concepts of suppressed guilt and trauma projection. This makes the horror deeply cerebral rather than relying on cheap jump scares for effect. The approach focuses on the projection of buried traumas to deliver a more thoughtful terror experience drawn from his professional background in psychology.

The visual style of the series presents a living graphic novel appearance. It combines hand-crafted watercolor backgrounds with textured, oil-painted fire effects and sharp character linework instead of using sterile digital animation. This combination helps to achieve the distinctive aesthetic that defines the series from start to finish.

Backed by Khosla Ventures, Studio Jadu has developed its operations around the AIDA production workbench. For this project the studio employed a team of nine human artists. These individuals directly handled the tasks of character performance, layout, and art direction. Their involvement ensured that the vision stayed human-led throughout the process, even as the studio made use of its AI-enabled tools in the production pipeline.

The entire three-episode premiere block can be watched immediately by viewers on YouTube without any paywall in place. The studio describes the series as a survival horror thriller that is rooted in the true mystery surrounding North Sentinel Island along with its uncontacted inhabitants.

Bestselling creator Ajinkya Bhasme, directors Nitin Burli and Sree Lakshmi, and Studio Jadu founder Masoud Loghmani are available for interviews this week to discuss the series, the island lore, and how the production was built.
