Save ‘Shadowhunters’ S3b countdown: Love
We’ve partnered with the amazing folks at @BoomBitchesSH to help raise awareness around the historic marketing that the Shadowfam have been doing for Shadowhunters season 3b. Today we reveal the first part of the exclusive 3b poster.
Following the cancellation of Freeform’s Shadowhunters, fans worked around the clock and around the globe to keep the award-winning fantasy show alive in the minds of fans and networks alike. The partnership with @BoomBitchesSH highlighted a coordinated push that mixed big-ticket visibility with smaller gestures of appreciation.
In anticipation of the Spring launch of the second half of the show’s third season, fan-led campaign group @BoomBitchesSH booked a billboard campaign in Los Angeles to advertise the show for a month (starting February 11th) as well as spread the #SaveShadowhunters message. The effort formed part of a wider 2019 push that ran through the final episodes.
Billboard and advertisement details
The Los Angeles billboards were joined by a mobile billboard and a flyer team that handed out printed materials for five days ahead of the premiere. Those placements joined earlier global efforts such as a plane banner over Netflix headquarters, billboards in Times Square, Seoul, and Toronto, and banners on the classic red double-decker buses in London. The LA campaign began in the February 11, 2019 timeframe and carried historical weight once the season wrapped.
Fan campaigns and projects
This was the latest in a long line of crowdfunded projects carried out since the show’s cancellation was announced on June 4th, 2018. Over the past few months prior to having an air date for the show, @BoomBitchesSH focused their efforts on smaller campaigns, targeting networks directly as well as sending gifts of appreciation to the cast and crew of their beloved show. Fans learned the cost of a drone light show in L.A.’s night skies and arranged cupcakes, balloons, flowers, and other small gifts delivered worldwide. Season 3b premiered February 25, 2019 and ended May 6, 2019. These campaigns represented the final major organized efforts.
S3e20 City of Glass reference
With our tissues at the ready, we trepidatiously watched Shadowhunters S3e20 “City of Glass”, and it was another doozy of an episode. The installment aired during the S3b run in 2019 and formed part of the completed season arc that led to the series conclusion.
Poster design and reveals
Once a decision was made on which direction to take the campaign and after a lot of negotiation, advertisement spots were secured and paid for. All that was left was the artwork, which was a much harder task than originally anticipated. As this is a fan-led campaign, naturally it was decided the design should also originate from the fandom. An absolute fandom icon was enlisted to create the poster design. The fan-designed posters became part of the pre-premiere hype and have since turned into archival fandom artifacts.
Legacy of the #SaveShadowhunters Campaign
Campaigns ran intensively from 2018 through the 2019 finale. Despite widespread efforts across multiple cities and creative formats, no revival resulted. The coordinated push left a record of dedication that fans still reference when they revisit the series.
Where to Watch Shadowhunters Today
The complete series is available on Hulu in the US. It left Netflix globally on January 1, 2026. Viewers can also purchase episodes or seasons on Apple TV, Amazon, and Fandango at Home.
Ongoing Shadowhunter Chronicles Book Universe
Cassandra Clare continues the source material with The Wicked Powers trilogy as the planned finale. New companion stories and collections have been released or scheduled as of 2026, giving readers additional entries set in the same world.
Cast Connections and Reunions
Cast members report staying in touch years later. Occasional reunion events and projects have been noted in 2024-2026, keeping the on-screen chemistry alive for fans who followed the original run.
Overall fandom efforts since the 2018 cancellation showed remarkable scope. Despite extensive global projects the show was not renewed beyond S3b, yet the finale provided closure with extra episodes and left behind a body of fan-created work that still circulates. The partnership with @BoomBitchesSH captured a moment when the Shadowfam turned collective energy into visible campaigns that honored the series and its cast long after the final credits rolled.
