Was 'Bridgerton' a replacement for season 2 of 'Sanditon'? Is 'Bridgerton' even better than 'Sanditon'? Check out what fans are saying about the new series.

‘Bridgerton’ fans would love to see a ‘Sanditon’ season 2

Since Sanditon left us, Lady Whistledown brought the next dazzling romance, Bridgerton. It might not be Sanditon, but could this new Netflix series be enough to satisfy the Sanditon fandam?

ITV may have cancelled Sanditon back in 2019, but fans haven’t given up on their favorite characters Charlotte & Sidney. There have been multiple tweets & rumors that another Sanditon season is just a summer away. This includes UK Casting News, who recently advertised a casting call for “SANDITON series II”, which definitely made fans wonder.

But since Sanditon season 2 has yet to be confirmed, could Netflix’s Bridgerton take over?

What is Bridgerton?

Bridgerton is an incredible 19th century romantic drama about finding love in a society that only cares about status & wealth. The English series is written & directed by none other than Shonda Rhymes. With Rhymes on board, we knew it was going to give us an emotional ride. Rhymes is also known for groundbreaking series like Station 19, How to Get Away with Murder, and seventeen seasons of Grey’s Anatomy

Bridgerton hit our Netflix screens on December 25th, 2020. The series follows the Bridgerton family during their annual “social season”. The social season brings our protagonists Lady Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) & Duke Simon Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) together in a strange way.

In between Lady Bridgerton & Duke Hasting’s hot love-hate romance, we’re introduced to Daphne’s brothers, and other families who find themselves struggling to maintain their sophisticated titles. Does someone smell drama?

What is Sanditon?

Sanditon is a beloved English series, originally written by the queen of romance, Jane Austen. Austen is known for popular, classic novels you may have had to read in high school, such as Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, and Emma.

Sanditon was taken from an unfinished novel of Jane Austen, but with the help of Andrew Davies, it became a brilliant TV show about love, heartbreak, and (with no season 2) utter tragedy.

The ITV series, Sanditon explored aspects of the novel with Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) & Sidney Parker (Theo James) as the romantic leads of the show. But the series actually follows the ins & outs of the town where they live & love, Sanditon.

Sanditon focuses on the wealthy brunette, Charlotte Heywood, who continuously surprises society with her loud voice, amongst a new family that comes into town, including newcomer Tom (Kris Marshall). We watch the struggling dynamics of the old & new families of Sanditon. Nothing like “Romeo & Juliet”

Bridgerton vs Sanditon

What makes Sanditon a total Jane Austen show has to be the fancy dresses & candlelit balls. However, Bridgerton has the same characteristics. In fact, the show thrives on glamorous parties in each episode. Each episode of Bridgerton presents “an event of the social season” where young ladies hope to find their true prince charming.

The flaming romance between Sanditon’s Sidney Parker (Theo James) & Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) includes heartwarming moments like their cliffside kiss, and many long walks on the beach. Despite the obvious connection between the characters, the series decided to  end the series with a “happily never after” instead.

In Netflix’s Bridgerton, our love birds Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) & Simon Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) are only growing to love each other more by the end of season 1.

Fans haven’t given up

The #SaveSanditon hashtag is still alive, and fans aren’t taking Bridgerton as a replacement anytime soon. Though Sanditon fans have loved and even recommended Shonda Rhimes’s English series, Bridgerton, they still believe there’s a chance for Sanditon to return.

Bridgerton was recently confirmed for a season 2, but Sanditon fans are determined to #SaveSanditon. In fact, they have created multiple Change.org petitions to get the show back on the air. Currently one Change.org petition by Isabel King contains over 83,000 signatures and is addressed to the show’s British broadcaster, ITV.
