Punk Rock Meets Costume Design: Lee Diemer’s Wild Adventure on “Free LSD”
In the ever-evolving world of showbiz, the costume design industry has witnessed a sea of changes as it adapts to shifting trends and innovative styles. One such trailblazer is Lee Diemer, a talented freelance costume designer in L.A., who has been making waves in this dynamic space. Merging her love for entertainment and art with her exceptional costume design skills, Lee exemplifies the creative spirit that thrives in the entertainment industry.
From a small town in Canada to the bustling streets of Los Angeles and the nostalgic vibes of a punk rock film set, Lee’s meteoric rise in the world of costume design is nothing short of extraordinary. Having worked on multiple high-profile projects and crossed paths with the people who first encouraged her to pursue her aspirations, this small-town girl has taken the entertainment industry by storm.
Lee‘s recent work on the unique feature film Free LSD perfectly encapsulates her passion for blending costume design with the punk rock ethos. As a lifelong punk rock fan, this project offered Lee the incredible opportunity to work with Dawn Ritz, the film’s costume designer, and legendary punk rocker Keith Morris. Morris, known for fronting iconic bands such as Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and OFF!, played a starring role in the film, which narrates the wicked adventures of the members of OFF! as themselves.
Free LSD provided Lee with a wild and unforgettable experience that combined her love for punk rock with her expertise in costume design. The film’s psychedelic, gritty, and witty nature allowed her to truly immerse herself in a world where her passions collided, creating unforgettable memories and lifelong connections.
This remarkable achievement is just one among many for Lee, who has been steadily making a name for herself in the costume design space. Her career highlights include working with award winning costume designer Lou Eyrich on the hit show Ratched, contributing to the costume department for the Oscar-winning film Ford vs. Ferrari, and designing costumes for popular music videos like “Falling in Reverse” and “The Drug in Me Is Reimagined,” the latter of which has garnered over 31 million views.
Moving from her quaint hometown of Rockwood, Ontario, Canada, to the bustling cities of Toronto and Los Angeles, Lee faced significant culture shock and the daunting task of navigating the film industry. However, her tenacity and determination led her to volunteer and work as a PA, acquiring valuable real-life experiences that shaped her understanding of the filmmaking process.
Going forward, Lee wants to design costumes for classic horror films and is also interested in collaborating with different departments, like makeup and camera, to create effective illusions or stunts. She dreams of launching her own streetwear fashion line, inspired by her costume work that will reflect fun, creative, androgynous designs.
Lee’s love for music videos and concert looks fuels her ambition to design a tour for a musical artist, one that showcases their art through their stage presence and attire. This would allow her to tell a complete story through clothing, bringing her artistic vision to life in a gratifying way.
Lee Diemer’s journey from a small Canadian town to the glamorous world of costume design in Los Angeles shows her dedication, talent, and passion. Her remarkable achievements, like her work on Free LSD, are only the beginning for this rising star in the entertainment industry.
