New 4K restoration of ‘Tracks’ 1976 film screens at Roxy Cinema
The new 4K restoration of Henry Jaglom's 1976 film Tracks receives a special Veterans Day screening at the Roxy Cinema in New York. This presentation revives the independent production from the New Hollywood era for contemporary audiences. The event centers on the restored print of a work that captured postwar American experiences through its distinctive narrative approach. Screenings of this kind allow renewed access to films that addressed the lingering effects of the Vietnam War era shortly after the conflict ended.
A sergeant portrayed by Dennis Hopper returns from Vietnam tasked with accompanying a comrade's body for burial while traveling across America by train. Haunted by hallucinations of terror the soldier encounters various passengers both actual and imagined during the journey. Dean Stockwell and Taryn Power join the cast in this fractured loose-limmed story that examines postwar trauma sexual tension and a nation's difficulty confronting its own unresolved conflicts following the war.
J. Hoberman called the film visceral and discomforting noting that Henry Jaglom's ambitious independent production is both a terminal road film and the first post-Vietnam movie. Variety described it as an incisive revelatory film that stands out among its contemporaries for its direct engagement with difficult subject matter.
The cast features Dennis Hopper Taryn Power and Dean Stockwell. Henry Jaglom wrote and directed the film. Paul Glickman handled cinematography while Zack Norman served as producer.
Henry Jaglom lived from 1938 to 2025 and began his filmmaking career in the cutting room assisting with the edit of Dennis Hopper's 1969 film Easy Rider alongside Jack Nicholson. Jaglom went on to write and direct twenty more films establishing an independent path through the New American Cinema. In 2013 Metropolitan Books published his book My Lunches With Orson documenting conversations with Orson Welles.
The screening takes place on Wednesday November 11 2026 at 7:00pm at the Roxy Cinema located at 2 Avenue of the Americas Cellar Level New York NY 10013.
