Get ready for the 2022 Montreal Independent Film Festival

Film festivals gather some of the world’s greatest working talent and put them on full display. Festivals are a place for fans, critics, and artists to come together to celebrate the magic of movies. The last couple years have been rough going for film festivals worldwide, but the Montreal Independent Film Festival is back in full swing with a hybrid approach for 2022.

For years, the Montreal Independent Film Festival has tapped into the full spectrum of the filmmaking world. The festival hosts Oscar winners, Hollywood stars, and emerging indie talent from across the globe. Few festivals boast the same level of variety, and that’s part of the reason that the Montreal Independent Film Festival has a special place in filmmaker’s hearts.

For spring of 2022, MIFF is taking a hybrid approach to its festivities. There will be in-person screenings of films at Cinema du Parc, but festival goers will also be able to take part in all the excitement online through the Montreal Independent Film Channel. Get ready to get psyched about everything the 2022 festival has to offer by catching up on all the details right here.

Filmmaker Arsalan Baraheni currently serves as the festival’s artistic director. He’s worked tirelessly to keep the festival alive in the midst of a global pandemic, and his work has paid off many times over. The festival ranks among the world’s best, with 5,000 entries last year and hundreds of different screenings.

This year the festival also includes some brand new faces. Andy Garcia, Terri Pollo, Julie Pacino, Dayna Hanson, Nahéma Ricci and Warwick Thornton are all festival alumni who have joined in on its production. In 2021 they were all winners, and now they’re working to spread the love and keep life in the filmmaking world strong.

Coming to a screen near you

Every year the Montreal Independent Film Festivals supports filmmakers, actors, and crew members throughout the world by giving them cash awards, products, bonuses, and promotion for their projects. The MIFF is committed to highlighting the achievements of independent artists and contributing to a thriving & healthy film industry. That mission is currently going stronger than ever.

The next festival will begin in the spring of 2022. It’s designed to be as reachable as possible, so that no matter who you are, you can get a taste of all the talent that will be on display. Physical screenings of films will take place at Cinema du Parc, but anyone who’s not in Canada, or who’s concerned about social distancing, will still be able to catch up on all the films.

Virtual screenings will take place online thanks to the Montreal Independent Film Channel. The festival aims to include indie work in every genre, so there’s sure to be something for everyone when the festival opens in 2022. Make sure to stay up to date on all the latest developments by keeping an eye on the festival’s website, and spend the rest of your winter doing your best to contain your excitement.
