The trailer for the highly anticipated 'Luca' is here, and it looks phenomenal. Find out why the new Pixar movie is heading straight to Disney Plus here.

Why is Pixar’s new movie ‘Luca’ going straight to Disney+?

Pixar has just released a trailer for their upcoming new movie titled Luca, and it looks absolutely spectacular. The movie is set in the beautiful coast of Italy, so you can bet there are some beautifully colorful animations all throughout. However, to much disappointment, it looks like we won’t be able to enjoy seeing this gorgeous film on the big screen, as it is heading straight for Disney+. Read on to find out why.

Why is it heading straight to streaming?

So why is the new Pixar movie heading straight to streaming? This may seem absurd, especially because Pixar films usually dominate the box office upon release, but this is actually the company’s second movie in a row that was sent straight to Disney+. Last fall, Pixar sent Soul straight to streaming due to the coronavirus pandemic as well. Just how many more upcoming films are they planning to send straight to streaming?

However, with movie theaters opening back up as vaccine rates begin to rise and COVID-19 rates decrease, shouldn’t it make sense to debut Luca in theaters as a kick-off to celebrate the beginning of the end of the pandemic (hopefully)? However, it seems like Disney has a much more different idea in mind, as the new Pixar movie will be available to stream on Disney+ right on the film’s release date of June 18th.

While box office ticket sales may be incredibly important, it seems that Disney made their decision based on trying to get more subscribers and customers on to Disney+. After all, when the streaming service offered Soul at no extra cost to their subscribers, the company did in fact see an increase in subscription numbers around Christmas time. Will this new Pixar movie help Disney+ do the same?

Other upcoming Disney movies

The coronavirus has certainly complicated many factors in the film industry, and Disney+ is surely not the only example of highly-anticipated movies heading straight to a streaming platform. For instance, the deal made earlier this year between HBO Max and Warner Bros confirmed that upcoming 2021 films such as Dune, Matrix 4, The Suicide Squad, and plenty more were hitting HBO Max the same day as its theatrical release.

While Soul and Luca will never see the big screen and are available to Disney+ subscribers at no additional fee, Disney+ created their own feature similar to that of HBO Max’s, in which upcoming Disney movies getting a theatrical release will also hit the streaming service the same day. However, streaming those specific movies will come with an additional fee, even if you’re already a subscriber.

Through the feature known as “Premier Access”, Disney demanded an additional fee of thirty bucks to watch the live-action Mulan as well as their recent Raya and the Last Dragon. The company is also planning to do the same for upcoming films Black Widow and Cruella

All About Luca

If you have Disney+, then let’s get you prepared for all you have to know about the new Pixar movie Luca so you’re ready to enjoy the film this coming June 18th. The synopsis reads: “Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera. . . Luca is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides.”

“Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface”, the synopsis added. Just watching the trailer alone, you’ll see that Luca will definitely be another Pixar classic. It looks like it’s full of laughs, heart, and can be enjoyed by anyone of all ages. We can’t wait to watch it!
