Do Lisa Marie Presley’s kids think she was using drugs before her death?

Tragedy has hit the Presley family once again with the death of Elvis’s only child – Lisa Marie. Numerous reports are suggesting the mom of four was using opioids months before her cardiac arrest last month at the age of fifty-four.

Did Lisa Marie’s kids know of her relapse? Did drugs cause her death? Here’s everything you need to know.

Her life

Lisa Marie Presley was born on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. Her career began when she signed her first record deal in 1989 with Geffen Records and released her debut album To Whom It May Concern in 2003. Throughout her career, she has released several albums as well as appeared in television shows and films such as Ocean’s 11.

In addition to her music career, Lisa Marie also served as a philanthropist — supporting causes such as human rights and animal welfare — and was both a mother of four children and grandmother of eight grandchildren.

Elvis Presley’s death was a very tragic reminder of how human our idols really are. He died on August 16, 1977, in his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee. The official cause of death was a heart attack, though it has been speculated that he may have died from an accidental drug overdose or a combination of multiple drugs and health issues. He was just forty-two years old at the time of his death.

Her downfall

It appeared that Lisa Marie also struggled with drug addiction during her life. Lisa was nine years old when her father passed away. Lisa Marie’s mom Priscilla began dating actor Michael Edwards shortly after Elvis’s death and was accused of abusing Lisa Marie when she was only twelve. Drugs and alcohol became a crutch when she turned to them at the age of thirteen before being submitted to a rehabilitation facility run by Scientologists.

In 2013, her addiction was still ongoing, and was heavily reliant on cocaine, but tried to fight the addiction by checking into rehab five times. In 2020, Lisa Marie was hit with another tragedy when her son Benjamin committed suicide when he was twenty-seven years old. This was after a rehab stint after a suicide attempt months prior to his death.

After her kid’s death, she decided to remove herself from the spotlight but returned only to attend the Golden Globes, in support of the biopic Elvis, just before her death on January 13th, 2023. It’s unclear whether drugs were the cause or if her family knew of any relapse before she lost her life.

Her legacy

At the time of his death, Elvis Presley’s net worth was estimated to be around $15 million. Despite achieving unparalleled success in music and film, most of his wealth came from endorsement deals and investments made over his lifetime. He also donated much of his money to various charities around the world. It’s also been suggested that his manager Colonel Tom Parker took a lot of the late icon’s money to pay off gambling debts.

Lisa Marie Presley was estimated to have a net worth of $200 million. Her fortune stems primarily from her father’s legacy, as well as her own musical career and various business ventures. However, Lisa Marie’s mother is now contesting the will.

As reported on BBC, “The court petition disputes a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s will that ousted Priscilla as the estate trustee.” According to Priscilla’s lawyers, “The document misspelled her mother’s name and had a signature that appeared unusual.”

“Based on the foregoing, the Purported 2016 Amendment should be deemed invalid and the Trust, as amended and completely restated in 2010 is the controlling and authoritative document and its terms administered,” the petition reads. It’s unclear what exactly is the state of Lisa Marie’s affairs, however, there was recent turmoil with her accounts and clearly unusual amendments to her will.
