Larry Ellison net worth falls $168.9B in one year
The BestBrokers report examines the billionaires whose net worth fell the most between 12 October 2025 and 12 October 2026 according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List. Larry Ellison recorded the largest loss both in absolute dollars and by percentage, dropping 47.9 percent.
Ellison stood as the world’s second-richest person in October 2025 with a net worth of $352.4 billion, trailing Elon Musk by $120 billion. One year later his fortune stood at $183.5 billion after a $168.9 billion decline, equal to $463 million per day. Oracle borrowed heavily to construct AI data centres for contracts including those with OpenAI, pushing debt above $125 billion; the company also announced plans to raise $20 billion through new stock and bond sales. Shares have fallen 60 percent from the September 2025 peak.
Bernard Arnault placed second among losers with a $47.8 billion decline, or $131 million per day. Cooling global demand for luxury goods drove LVMH shares down more than 40 percent this year. Arnault exited Forbes’ list of the world’s ten richest people in September.
Prajogo Pangestu ranked third with a $35.1 billion loss that left him with $13.2 billion, nearly three-quarters of his prior wealth. Most of his holdings concentrate in Barito Renewables. Index provider MSCI cited concentrated insider ownership and removed the company from its global standard index in May, prompting tracking funds to sell.
Subsequent largest absolute losers included Mukesh Ambani at $23.8 billion or $65 million daily, Lei Jun at $21.6 billion or $59 million daily, Ma Huateng at $20.6 billion or $56 million daily, Zhong Shanshan at $17.5 billion or $48 million daily, Colin Huang at $15.1 billion or $41 million daily, Michael Bloomberg at $14.5 billion or $40 million daily, and Reinhold Wuerth at $11.1 billion or $30 million daily.
Further down the list, Pavel Durov and Adam Foroughi each lost $10.5 billion or $29 million per day, Low Tuck Kwong lost $9.2 billion or $25 million daily, David Cheriton lost $9.1 billion or $25 million daily, and Wang Ning lost $8.6 billion or $24 million daily.
Lei Jun’s net worth fell more than half from $41.5 billion to $19.9 billion after Xiaomi’s first-quarter profit dropped 43 percent. AI data-centre demand absorbed global memory-chip supply and raised costs for smartphone makers. The same shortage lifted CXMT founder Zhu Yiming’s fortune as his firm produces those chips.
Wang Ning lost $8.6 billion as the Labubu and Monsters franchise cooled. Revenue share from the Monsters line fell to 26 percent in the first half of 2026 from 34.7 percent a year earlier.
Three weeks after 12 October, Ellison’s net worth declined an additional $23.8 billion to $159.7 billion. Low Tuck Kwong’s holdings fell 39 percent to $9.7 billion after he sold roughly three-quarters of his Bayan Resources stake. Mukesh Ambani regained $9.6 billion to reach $88.4 billion following Jio’s record stock-market debut on 28 October. Lei Jun recovered nearly 15 percent to $22.8 billion.
BestBrokers analyst Stanislava Savisheva stated: ‘Artificial intelligence is behind some of the biggest wealth gains of the past year, but also behind the biggest loss. The same boom that turned Figure AI’s Brett Adcock and Anthropic’s founders into multibillionaires wiped $168.9 billion off Larry Ellison’s net worth.’ The analysis compared Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List entries for 12 October 2025 and 12 October 2026 retrieved through the Wayback Machine and calculated absolute, percentage and average daily changes for individuals present on both dates.
