Is Johnny Depp really donating $1 million settlement funds from his ex-wife to 5 local charities?
If you have been a Pirates of the Caribbean fan like me, Johnny Depp posters would already be all over your room. Moreover, you must have followed the divorce and subsequent trial in court that the actor faced opposing his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
When all was said and done, the court concluded the case declaring Depp as the winning party and ordered Heard to pay $1 million as settlement funds to him. A source close to the actor soon shared that he plans to donate the money to 5 charities, each of which will receive a $200,000 donation. Although the details were not initially disclosed, I was expecting big names like the Salvation Army, Lifeline, and The Goodwill to be a few names amongst others that Depp will share the charity with.
However, reports soon flooded in that Depp will be giving the funds to Make a Film Foundation, Painted Turtle, and Tetiaroa Society, each of which is working, in their own unique way, towards the betterment of the communities in the US. Here’s a quick overview of what the non-profit agencies are doing.
Make a Film Foundation: Depp has previously worked with this organization and helped millions of children with life-threatening medical conditions by pairing them with actors or others in this industry and giving them a chance to work on big projects.
Painted Turtle: The organization is managed by Paul Newman and aims to deliver camp experience for kids with serious medical conditions. Moreover, it is helping needy in the community find housing solutions by pairing with Red Feather.
Tetiaroa Society: It funds conservation efforts, education programs and scientific research in different academic institutions.
The other two charities that have come to light are the Red Feather and Amazonia Fund Alliance. All of these prominent names in the list of Lifeline Op Shops charity bins that work globally.
The updates sent a wave of adornment through Depp’s fans who were eagerly looking up to him. In this regard, his attorneys, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez mentioned, “We are please to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process that his priority was about bringing truth to light. The jury’s unanimous decision and the resulting judgment in Mr. Depp’s favor against Ms. Heard remain fully in place.” Camille further added, “Mr. Depp will be donating the money that Ms. Heard paid to settle the appeal to a number of charities. Case closed, and we couldn’t be happier about it for him in the best possible way.”
In contrast, Amber had nothing to share but disappointment as she discussed how the event unfolded and concluded for her. She mentioned to the press, “I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed. The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimized when they come forward. Not I finally have the opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago and on terms I can agree to.” She announced through an Instagram post that settlement was not an act of concession and she was not at all admitting to guilt by deciding to dissolve the case through settlement funds.
In recent news it was covered that Amber has decided to move to Spain with her daughter as a break from acting career. Where no one can confidently say when or if she will be making a comeback, Depp has already made his acting comeback at the Cannes Film Festival with Jeanne Du Barry. From time to time, both actors have been spotted in Europe trying their best to move on from the impact of a public trial.
