From Broadway to Streaming: Alec Dahmer’s Diverse Entertainment Portfolio
With an impressive resume spanning stage, television, and film, Canadian actor Alec Dahmer has proven his versatility and talent across multiple mediums. Though still early in his career, Dahmer has already played a remarkable breadth of roles, demonstrating his dedication to the craft.
Dahmer’s first major role came in 2015 at age 12 when he was cast as Kurt in the Stratford Festival of Ontario’s production of The Sound of Music. For over 100 performances, Dahmer brought the precocious middle von Trapp child to life in the classic musical. The intensive 10-month endeavor provided invaluable experience and mentorship that shaped Dahmer’s approach. He says, “That whole ten-month process hugely shaped who I am today, as it was a show with many amazing actors who became mentors of sorts and showed me the ropes of both performing and life.”
Following his stage debut, Dahmer pivoted to television, appearing in supporting roles on shows like Reign, The Next Step, and Anne with an E. In 2019, he landed his first starring role as a lead character in the comedy series Bajillionaires. Dahmer’s portrayal earned him Young Entertainer and Young Artist Award nominations for his work across the show’s 20 episodes.
While still booking guest spots on shows like Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, Dahmer’s career reached new heights in 2021 when he booked a heavily featured role on the HBO Max series Titans. His scene opposite series leads Brenton Thwaites and Curran Walters represented a transition into more intense, action-oriented projects. As Dahmer describes, “It was an amazing shoot that opened my eyes to a different world of acting, primarily stunts and action.”
Dahmer has expanded his portfolio between television projects with roles in independent films. He starred in the short film Beat It, which has earned accolades on the festival circuit, including Best Indie Short Film at the Berlin International Art Film Festival. Dahmer cherishes combining his acting and dance talents to share an anti-bullying message. He explains, “It was my first time traveling far to act as we shot that mostly in Montreal as that is where the director is from.”
Even as his career flourished, Dahmer recognized the need to continue honing his craft. In 2022, he began an intensive two-year conservatory program at the renowned Terry Knickerbocker Studio in New York City. Dahmer credits the Meisner technique training with strengthening his approach, sharing, “Acting with Terry Knickerbocker gave me the tools to act any character.”
While studying in New York, Dahmer has continued booking jobs, including dancing in Times Square and immersive theater productions. With enhanced technique and a continuously evolving resume, Dahmer feels prepared to achieve his goal of ” acting for a very long time!” He aspires to take on major roles across mediums that move audiences.
Alec Dahmer may still be early in his career, but his dedication to growth and versatile performances show a bright future. Whether tackling Broadway, television, film, or other opportunities, Dahmer’s commitment to the craft shines through.
