Why is rapper Eve leaving ‘The Talk’? Is she going back to music?
Eve announced on November 2 that she is leaving The Talk as co-host after four seasons on the popular CBS daytime talk show. The forty-one year old Emmy Award winning rapper, whose full name is Eve Jihan Jeffers Cooper, said she was leaving the CBS daytime talk show at the end of December.
“It’s been a crazy year, obviously for all of us,” Eve the rapper stated. “And I’m so grateful that I’m able to stay here in London and do the show, but I can’t see for me, the foreseeable future of traveling back at the moment, and have decided that at the end of December, this will probably be my last time on the show, in this capacity as a host.”
Living London lockdown
The news from Eve was not completely unexpected since the rapper had been co-hosting the show from her home in London where she and her husband, Maximillion Cooper, are currently based.
“We’re on another lockdown from Thursday, and that’s another reason, obviously staying home has been such a blessing because my husband and I got to know each other in a different way, a beautiful way,” Eve added. “So I want to be closer to him. I want to concentrate on expanding our family, being with my family.”
Warm well-wishes
Eve thanked her co-hosts Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood & Carrie Ann Inaba for their support. “I have had the most beautiful experience. I’ve grown as a woman, as a person. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again, I never thought that being on a talk show would be this much of an opening of my spirit, soul, personality, everything. Sitting on stage with all you women has been the best thing ever. I truly love you,” the rapper shared.
“Real friends support each other. We all support you,” said Inaba.
“Eve, I love and respect you, always, always. And there is a big place here for you always in my heart. I love you…I just want you to be happy,” said Osbourne. Sheryl Underwood joked that Eve & Cooper should “hurry up so I can be an auntie.”
Candid comments
“We’re trying,” Eve replied. “We’re working on it.”
This isn’t the first time Eve has gotten candid about her marriage and personal life. During an episode of the The Talk in June, the hosts discussed the death of George Floyd, with Eve describing how she and her husband, who is white, were talking about racism, even though these discussions can be uncomfortable.
“These conversations have to be had,” she said. “I am in an interracial relationship. I am having some of the most difficult and uncomfortable conversations I think I’ve ever had, and vice versa, with my husband.” Eve has been married to Cooper, forty-eight, since 2014. According to her, their conversations about race, though difficult, have been “a beautiful thing”.
Family and fertility
Family is an important issue for Eve and the rapper has been candid about another difficult family-focused issue – infertility. On an episode of The Talk, the co-host shared that she didn’t talk about her issues with getting pregnant because for a very long time she felt “shameful”.
“As a woman, you just think things happen naturally and I felt like I was damaged,” Eve said. “I felt like I was broken. I felt like, oh well maybe I’m not good enough.”
It’s no surprise that Eve didn’t share her pregnancy struggles with the world so openly at first. It’s not common for women to speak about infertility, and that is especially apparent in the black community. According to the CDC, only eight percent of black women between the ages of twenty-five and forty-four get medical help to assist in their pregnancy journey.
