All ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ guests who Ellen lied to
The Ellen DeGeneres Show has gone through the wringer in 2020. Between an investigation for toxic workplace culture to Ellen’s own bad attitude coming to light, it hasn’t been a great year for the host or her show. With The Ellen DeGeneres Show returning to television in a week, we have to wonder just what will change with how Ellen conducts herself, her staff, and treats her guests.
Over the course of the scandal, the celebrity guests that have appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show have spoken out about feeling less than comfortable on there. Mariah Carey talked about Ellen forcing her to reveal a pregnancy in 2008 while a clip of Britney Spears from 2016 being forced to steal has taken on an uncomfortable new light. Now, some guests are saying that Ellen has lied to them.
Because of course, she has. At this point, the list of things that Ellen hasn’t done is probably much shorter. Here’s some painful guests both famous and not interactions on the series.
Tuition
Every college student would love for someone to help pay for their tuition. And when Ellen had a guess who had been donating her own blood to pay for a computer, she said that Shutterfly, one of the show’s partners, would pay for her tuition. Look at that soul-deep relief on that woman’s face when she learns about it. Turns out? Ellen was wrong.
She had to tell the student that they were getting her a computer, but she still had to pay her own tuition. Awkward. And a lie. She should know what she’s giving to her a guest because damn from tuition to a computer? That’s a letdown.

No album
Ellen is not Oprah. Because Oprah gave her audiences cars and they got cars. Ellen? Ellen promised a Flo Rida CD to her audience and didn’t even give them that. Now Flo Rida isn’t my cup of musical tea, but if you were promised something then you should get it. That’s how these things work. It’s a verbal contract at this point! How can trust anything on The Ellen DeGeneres Show if they’re reneging on the simplest things?!
You can’t. Because it’s a lie.
“Don’t be funnier than Ellen”
Another fan interaction had a person get to be interviewed and meet Ellen. Thing is? They were given instructions not to “be funnier than Ellen”. Which is hella awkward. You can’t help what people find funny or not! The fan would say that the interaction was pretty humiliating and made her feel awful. All while she had to lie to the camera and pretend that everything was fine!
Yikes. It’ll definitely turn you off meeting anyone that you’ve ever liked or admired. Because, wow, can that interaction go down real fast.
NikkieTutorials
NikkieTutorials is one of the most popular makeup artists on YouTube who has over thirteen million subscribers. While YouTube stars don’t get a lot of recognition, NikkieTutorials was invited on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for several reasons. This was after she was blackmailed into outing herself as trans, so she was already not having a great time. How she was treated on the show? Yeah, not great.
Nikkie would describe her experience on the show as such: “Call me naive, but I kind of expected to be welcomed with confetti cannons: ‘Welcome to The Ellen DeGeneres Show!’ But instead, I was greeted by an angry intern who was a bit overworked. I was expecting a Disney show but got Teletubbies After Dark.”
The topper? Nikkie was promised her own bathroom while on the show. For whatever reason, she didn’t get one. Instead, it went to the Jonas Brothers and she wasn’t allowed to use it. What the hell?
