Is Ellen DeGeneres mean? An investigation is underway to find out
Is Ellen DeGeneres mean? The answer is more and more looking like a “yes”. After the expose from Buzzfeed News that detailed a toxic workplace environment on the Ellen DeGeneres Show with past employees, it’s just hard to believe any sort of positive message coming from the Ellen camp right now, you know?
From allegations of racism to employees being fired for taking medical leave, these allegations paint just a toxic environment around the Ellen DeGeneres Show. With many of these mean actions coming from her higher staff, such as executive producers. Now, it looks like the parent company of the Ellen show, WarnerMedia is going to do something about it.
According to Variety, who first reported the news on Monday, July 27, Ellen DeGeneres Show is now under an internal investigation. Sources close to Variety said that Warner Bros Television “sent a memo to staffers last week saying they have engaged WBTV-owner WarnerMedia’s employee relations group and a third party firm, who will interview current and former staffers about their experiences on set.”
Right now, this is all anyone knows about the investigation. Reps from WarnerMedia have declined to comment at this time.
So what does this mean for Ellen DeGeneres? Well, if these allegations are proven true (and given that Buzzfeed could corroborate a lot of the stories, it looks like it is), then this could lead to major changes amongst the senior staff of the series.
Depending on how heavily Ellen herself was involved with this abhorrent behavior, it could mean that she herself will face major consequences as well. Like the daytime talk series being cancelled.
Either way, these allegations has meant that Ellen’s reputation in Hollywood has taken a huge hit. Which it has been doing for months and months as the stories of her mean actions in public have become more and more public knowledge. Between that and the celebrity clapbacks against her, it may look like time to say goodbye to Ellen DeGeneres Show once and for all.
Should that happen, we hope that things will go better for the next series. And if the Ellen DeGeneres Show stays on air, then it should be with major changes to its operations and maybe a bit more oversight in regard to workplace culture and senior staff.
