DaBaby’s start in music

DaBaby is one of the most influential names in the rap genre at the moment, but his meteoric rise to fame didn’t come overnight. “I’ve studied the greats,” DaBaby told The Guardian. “I studied people like Future, Lil Wayne, and Kanye, who came up and consistently progressed. I’ve studied all the genius marketers throughout the rap game. I borrow from anybody with something to offer.”

DaBaby’s determination to pursue music started in 2015 when, at the age of 23, he released his first mixtape Nonfiction. He then went on to deliver several more mixtapes in which he embraced the moniker, Baby Jesus.

His work was finally recognized when he landed a deal with Arnold Taylor, President of the South Coast Music Group label. Under Taylor’s guidance, DaBaby scored a seven-figure deal from Interscope which officially marked the starting of his rise to stardom.
