Is Cheryl Burke from ‘Dancing with the Stars’ quitting?
Abc’s Dancing with the Stars kicked off its 30th season last week, revealing a slew of surprise celebrity dancers as well as their professional partners. Dancing with the Stars, which first debuted back in 2005, has an impressive lineup this season of stars all set on winning the Mirrorball trophy, including a WWE wrestler, a former Spice Girl, a real housewife, a fitness guru, and a Cobra Kai star.
However, having been on air since 2005, it is not just the celebrities who serve as the stars of the show, but the dancers as well, as audiences who are familiar with this ballroom dancing competition look just as much forward to the new slew of celebrities as they do the dancers, some of them who have been on for nearly ten years. One of these dancers is Cheryl Burke, who has won two mirror ball trophies in the past.
That being said, a small tragedy struck Burke during week 2 of the show on Monday when it was announced she had tested positive for COVID, even though she had already been vaccinated. Her partner, Peloton guru Cody Rigsby was forced to quarantine separately from Burke but away from the main show, given their close contact during rehearsals all week. Just what came from this instant? Will Burke have to quit?
Dancing with the Stars 30
Monday night premiered the 30th season of the hit dancing competition series Dancing with the Stars, the show that has slowly grown in popularity throughout the years. This season is no exception to surprising & exciting guests, for not only did this season of Dancing With the Stars bring back some of our favorite professional dancers, including Witney Carson and Lindsay Arnold, but it unleashed an impressive celeb list as well.
We now know that the full cast includes the likes of WWE’s The Miz, Broadway star Amanda Kloots, Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee, The Karate Kid star Martin Kove, The Bachelor’s Matt James, social influencer and admissions thief Olivia Jade, Beverly Hills 90210 star Brian Austin Green, The Office star Melora Hardin, as well as several other impressive names.
However, the cream of the crop is clearly Jojo Siwa, who can currently be found on Nickelodeon’s The J team, which is now streaming on Paramount+. That being said, with Cobra Kai’s Martin Kove now eliminated from the competition, there’s nobody else really competing who’s embarrassing themselves out on the dancefloor, including Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby. But why weren’t they on during week 2?
Burke tests positive for COVID
The thirty-four year old Peloton instructor’s pro partner Cheryl Burke tested positive for COVID-19 last Sunday and she was unable to perform alongside him during the live show on Monday. Cody was also not allowed to be in the studio because of his close contact with Cheryl throughout the last week. So, the producers decided to show a video that Cody and Cheryl recorded in the rehearsal studio for their week 2 performance.
Cody and Cheryl performed a Salsa to the song “Don’t Go Yet” by Camila Cabello, earning 24 out of 40 points from the four judges. It is likely, given that their performance came nearly a week early from their rehearsal, that they would’ve scored higher had they had the full week to work on and perfect their Salsa.
Hopefully, Cheryl Burke will be able to return to the ballroom next week alongside her partner Cody Rigsby, seeing as they’re both openly vaccinated and the quarantine rules might be a little lighter. Cody, while not a top contender like JoJo Siwa or Suni Lee, is on par with the rest of the celebrity cast, finding ways to bring his energy and enthusiasm into every dance. This pair is a blast, and we hope they return next week!
