Britney Spears: Why our queen is on strike against her dad

Some call her the queen of pop, some the queen of drama. What newsworthy is going on in Britney Spears’s life now?

Our queen is currently on strike against her dad, Jamie Spears. Daddy Spears has been Britney’s conservator since 2008, after she had a mental breakdown during which she attacked a paparazzi car with an umbrella. We’re all familiar with the infamous shaved-head look that served as a symbol of that dark time in the pop star’s life.

Since then, Jamie Spears has remained Britney’s conservator, despite 13 years having passed. At age 38, Britney isn’t all too happy with this fact and is making moves to end the legal arrangement.

The rules of Jamie Spears’s conservatorship

For those not familiar with the term “conservatorship”, it means Jamie Spears has primary control over Britney’s financial and medical affairs. Conservatorship is only appointed by a judge when an individual is deemed to have physical or mental limitations that interfere greatly with decision-making.

This conservatorship was bestowed upon Mr. Spears because of Britney’s 2007 mental breakdown. Jamie Spears currently receives about $10,000 in monthly allowance in exchange for managing Britney’s finances. Evidently, this is not something Britney is thrilled about.

Britney Spears strikes against her dad

Britney’s last album, Glory, was dropped in August 2016 and the famous pop star is not preparing to release another anytime soon. Although it didn’t start out that way, Britney Spears is refusing to make any more music as a protest to her dad’s conservatorship. Even Britney’s son Jayden has commented to fans that he doubts his mother will be making any new music soon.

A source from US Weekly claims “Britney has expressed that she doesn’t want to work again because she doesn’t want to continue to essentially keep herself under the conservatorship.” Britney seems perfectly content with the fact that her last album release was four years ago and plans to continue the strike against her dad.

Britney Spears’ crumbling relationship with her dad

When Jamie Spears suffered a colon rupture in 2018, Britney was heartbroken and took time off from her career to care for her ailing dad. At the time, Britney’s relationship with her dad seemed very tight knit.

She made a statement saying, “I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.”

But in 2019, when an altercation between Jamie Spears and Britney Spears’ sons took place, things turned sour. Jamie Spears allegedly got angry about a disagreement he and Britney were having while Britney and her sons (Sean & Jayden) were over for a visit to his house.

One of the boys reportedly felt unsafe and locked himself in a room that Jamie Spears proceeded to bust into and then allegedly shake the boy. As a result, Britney’s ex-husband, Kevin Federline, filed a restraining order against Jamie for domestic abuse. Grandfather, Jamie Spears, is now restricted from seeing Britney’s sons.

Tensions between Britney and her father have been high since then and she is seeking to get out from underneath his thumb. It remains to be seen whether Britney Spears will regain control of her multi-million dollar estate, but Britney continues to make strides toward that end. At the very least, Britney can bide her time annoying Jamie Spears with the stagnant state of her musical productivity.
