Blond in Car releases ‘Glider’ album produced by Jay Som
Blond in Car released the album GLIDER on November 4. Produced entirely by Jay Som, the record converts heartbreak, family complications and existential uncertainty into ten brightly melodic indie pop songs that locate beauty amid life's contradictions.
Robin Schorr, the artist behind the project, confronts direct personal questions throughout the album. These include whether another relationship can be trusted, whether younger friends will attend her funeral, whether a Grammy would validate her work, and whether she should call her sister. She describes the material as addressing the absurdity of existence alongside the desire for connection. “Life is crazy beautiful and, simultaneously, one big heartbreak,” Schorr says. “I like when these two opposites coincide and rub against each other in an infectious bittersweet way, both lyrically and musically.”
Melina Duterte, known as Jay Som, produced every track. The release-day focus track “Shaky Day,” which features Jay Som, centers on the reassuring presence of Schorr’s older sister Lynn during moments of self-doubt. Schorr had carried the song title and concept for years before it aligned during sessions with Duterte. “I had the idea and the name of this song for years and I tried to write it a couple of times with different melodies, different lyrics,” she says. “But it never came out quite right. Then when I started to work on the album with Melina, it crossed my mind again and this time, it came together just right. Melina sang a bunch of beautiful, epic harmonies on it and the song became one of maximum kindness in just the way I hoped.”
On “Bad Dad,” featuring Missy Dabice of Mannequin Pussy, Schorr examines the long-term impact of a strained relationship with her father and its influence on later romantic patterns. The track balances stark honesty with humor, turning private difficulty into a shared, anthemic statement. Schorr sings the line “When you have a bad dad you're two steps back.”
Additional featured tracks address related personal subjects. “Soft Touch,” featuring Christie Simpson of Yumi Zouma, considers the risks of remaining openhearted after divorce. “If You Were My Brother,” featuring BEL, imagines how a sibling bond might have eased navigation of male relationships and loneliness. “How To Be a Mystery,” featuring Jack Newsome, pairs an upbeat surface with the ache of unreturned interest in an enigmatic woman. “Come To My Funeral” reflects on younger friends outliving the artist and the wish to be remembered despite that gap.
Tracks outside romance and family include “Driving Thru,” which contemplates alternate lives observed from a car window, “Looking For Proof,” which questions reliance on external validation for creative work, and “Eyeshadow Blue,” featuring Liam Benzvi, which recalls the intellectual intensity of college years. The album originated with the song “Come True,” written while Schorr awaited Duterte’s production decision. That track initiated a shift from narrative-driven writing toward groove-oriented structures informed by Duterte’s bass contributions, expanding first into an EP and then the full album.
Schorr arrived at music after working in film, initially intending to write songs for other performers. She later recorded her own material in her kitchen, often using an Omnichord on an ironing board. A homemade video of “My High Gummygirl” circulated widely and helped assemble an audience exceeding 750,000 followers that includes SZA, Rosalía, AURORA and Marina.
Blond in Car's work has received attention from Anthony Fantano along with editorial support on Spotify, Apple Music and TIDAL, and live opportunities alongside artists including CMAT and The Two Lips. In 2026 Schorr has continued to expand the world around her music, bringing her candid songwriting and singular perspective to new audiences while building toward her first headline shows. GLIDER is available now on major streaming platforms.
The complete tracklist with durations is: 1. “Driving Thru” (03:39), 2. “How To Be a Mystery (feat. Jack Newsome)” (03:34), 3. “If You Were My Brother (feat. BEL)” (03:16), 4. “Soft Touch (feat. Schorr’s stated goal is to write material that endures. She aims for “really pretty timeless songs that are as catchy as they are penetrating about life, its joys and its sorrows.”
