James Barrington stars in The Firing Squad opposite Kevin Sorbo and Cuba Gooding Jr.
James Barrington is a British actor who beat 7000 other hopefuls to the lead role of Peter Lone in the new faith-based film The Firing Squad, starring alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Kevin Sorbo. The movie, which was directed by renowned faith-based director Tim Chey, was filmed in Los Angeles & Florida. It was just released this August across 2,000 major movie theatres in the US. He was trained in the performance arts in England and Los Angeles. The Firing Squad is Barrington’s first major role. He first caught “the acting bug” at age 11 while appearing in a school play. His parents encouraged him to pursue his passion for the stage, and he went on to attend a performing arts school until the age of 16.
Unfortunately, his father became ill with cancer. The family’s finances took a major hit, and James decided to give up on his dream of becoming an actor, instead switching his focus to a career in the hospitality industry. As a result of the cancer, James’ father passed away just before his 21st birthday. Shortly after this, James moved to Las Vegas, where he carved out a successful career within the nightlife and VIP hospitality sector of the city.
Fast forward to 2020, and COVID shut the city down — as well as his company. James realised that the fast life of Las Vegas was no longer for him and he took it as a sign to revisit his only true passion, acting. James started to spend a lot of his time in Los Angeles and London, where he put himself through numerous, intense acting schools and classes; this included some private coaching from acclaimed British actor Steven Berkoff. James then quickly caught the attention of numerous agents in LA, signing with Abstract Talent Agency in 2022.
Barrington appeared in HBO’s Our Flag Means Death. After filming The Firing Squad, James then landed another lead role in the upcoming British thriller The Third Degree, directed by Ryan Little. Now splitting his time between Los Angeles and London, James is still a fresh face in the industry — and very much looking forward to taking on new and challenging roles.
“Working on The Firing Squad was an incredible experience. Being my first feature movie, I was trying to take in as much information as possible and learn from everyone on the set. As this is a faith-based movie, being brought up as a Christian definitely helped me to channel my character, who gives his life to God in the movie.”
“I think the Firing Squad is a film for everyone, a true story that has a great positive and poignant message. Working alongside Kevin Sorbo and Cuba Gooding Jr. was hands down one of the best experiences of my life. I have remained in contact with Cuba, where he has provided me with great advice on how to master my craft. He has been extremely supportive and helpful since we wrapped filming.”
The Firing Squad delves into the harrowing journey of three men who find themselves on the brink of execution. As the countdown to their deaths begins, a remarkable sequence of events unfolds, revealing the transformative power of faith and the hope that transcends earthly trials. The men’s journey of redemption doesn’t stop at personal salvation; it ignites a spiritual revolution within the prison camp, guiding the souls of the most hardened criminals toward the loving embrace of Christ.
A predominant part of this shoot was filmed in a real prison. 12-hour shoot days in the Florida heat were not easy! Being in the prison cells for long days took a toll. There were over 60 extras on the set prisoners and guards. It was fascinating watching them all get into character, given the surroundings.
Cuba Gooding Jr. took this role, as he has recently given his life to God.
