Writing is a skill that takes time to perfect. Here are some crucial tips on how to improve your writing skills.

Improve your writing skills

Many copywriters find it very difficult to beautifully present their thoughts in print, especially if they have a lot of information. Articles turn out to be unreadable and tedious.  So today we’ll teach you how to write beautiful texts. Let’s try to figure out together what you should pay attention to, and how to move in the right direction.

Re-read it!

Probably most of us send texts without double re-reading. Yes, you will need some extra time to do it but promise, that work is worth it! Some people, especially when you work as a copywriter, an editor or just doing your student’s paper, pay very great attention to the text. Trivial mistakes in spelling or comma placement can seriously damage the impression of you. Sometimes it’s just better to recheck it.

Visualize everything you write about

80% of the information we are receiving every second, gets through our eyes. It makes sense that if we want to get the most information to the reader, we need to use the most effective way.

Scientists have proven that the best-perceived texts that are simple to receive are those, which spelled out specific expressions to form a certain image. For the reader to go from “I think I understand” to “I understand,” you need to visualize the images for them.

Think about the reader!

You have to be on the same level as the reader. Use the so-called “cooler test”: Imagine reading your material to a buddy you met at the cooler at work. If you have that opportunity, let someone else read the text. A friend, a colleague, a loved one. And ask three questions:

Will he enjoy listening to you?

Will he understand you?

Will he draw the right conclusions?

If the answer to all three questions is yes, then you have written a great piece.

Delay the text

After the written material is brought to its optimal form, close it and put it away until the next day. Get on with your other responsibilities. You can start working on the next text, but most importantly, don’t touch on what you’ve already written again. The next day, open the material and reread it. Chances are there will be details you want to fix, add or change. Make corrections, but it’s better to stop there.

Remember: the best is the enemy of the good, and the author almost always does not like his creation. The final editing of the material does not spend earlier

than 24 hours after writing it.

Write as much as possible

It’s just like riding a bike: you can’t learn to ride in theory. You just have to take it and ride it! Fall, get up and try again. There is no other way. It’s the same with a text as it is with a bike. You have to write every day, regularly, all the time. You have to live it. Not a day without a line. Then and only then can you become a truly professional copywriter or journalist.

Write every day, build up your hand.

Stephen King writes six pages a day,

James Patterson writes 4 pages a day,

James Joyce considered it a good day to add 6 new letters to a text.

Read as much as you can.

You can’t write well if you don’t spend at least a few hours a day reading. When we read, new words and expressions are deposited in our heads, old ones are renewed, and the style and manner of correct speech are adopted.

Read classic literature. But don’t forget to read something else as well – sometimes it’s good to shift your attention even to outright “slag” so that you can distinguish one from the other.

It’s not as complicated as it sounds. If you work according to all the rules mentioned above, you will eventually reach a good level of writing and improving language proficiency.
