The very first film that we have on our list of movies that got the cannabis revolution started is the 1936 film, Reefer Madness. The irony of this film is that it was written and produced as propaganda to prevent people from smoking “reefer, or cannabis, however, it ended up being one of the most revolutionary cannabis films of that decade and of all time. 

This film navigates and explores the most comedic and funny ways that cannabis affects teenagers and shows everything that parents could be doing to fight the consumption of “reefer” among their children and avoid the madness caused by it. This film is a must-watch for any pot head looking for a good laugh. 

Easy Rider (1969)

Next up on our list, we have an action/ drama film, Easy Rider. This 1969 film was directed by Dennis Hopper, who also happens to play one of the lead characters, alongside Peter Fonda. 

The film follows the leads Wyatt and Billy who are motorcycle riding hippies trying to conclude a drug deal in the great state of California. To get there they choose to travel cross country on their bikes and this film follows their journey along the way. 

Throughout the film, they meet all sorts of people and even have some terrifying drug experiences. 

Up in Smoke (1978)

Moving on down our list of movies, the next film that we have that got the cannabis revolution started is the 1978 film, Up in Smoke. This film is a stoner comedy starring Tommy Chong and Cheech Martin, who are well-known as stoners. 

Directed by Tommy Chong too, this film is about an unemployed stoner and musician who decides to leave home and go on a road trip to get away from his strict parents. Along the way, he meets his soul mate, and they are both quickly arrested for marijuana possession. Throughout the film, you get to see their adventure across the country during their road trip where their final destination is a rock band competition. 

This is a great stoner film for those looking for a light-hearted comedic film. 

Dazed and Confused (1993)

Moving on to films that are a bit more recent, the next film we will look at is Dazed and Confused.  This 1993 teen comedy was written and directed by Richard Linklater. Set in Texas in the late 1970s, this film is about a group of teenagers who are celebrating their final day of high school but having a big party at the local poo. 

This film is filled with plenty of drinking and indulging in drugs. For those who want something to take you back to your youth, this is a great film. 

Dude, Where’s My Car (2000)

Last but not least, we have the ever-famous, Dude where’s My Car? This 2000 comedy film was directed by Danny Leiner and stars Sean William alongside Ashton Kutcher. This fills follower the story of two friends who try to figure out what had happened the night before after a crazy bout of drugs and drinking. 

It is a great laugh and has so much to offer in the cay of crazy characters and comedy.
