Why is Ariana Grande offering younger fans therapy worth $1M?
The saga of Ariana Grande & Pete Davidson may be long over, but Grande is still managing to keep our attention. The young pop star’s name is trending this week, and fans are wondering whether Grande has dropped a new single or snatched up a new bad-boy boo. However, the news on Ariana Grande this week seems to have a (dare we say it) more humanitarian angle.
Ariana Grande is giving a gift to her younger fans, and this time the present won’t be the eternal gift of music (we’ve already gotten plenty). News publications across the board reported this week of Ariana Grande giving the gift of therapy to her younger fans who might not be able to afford the treatment. Here’s what we found out.
$1 million
Billboard reported on Tuesday that Ariana Grande will be donating $1 million in therapy costs to her younger fans who can’t afford the service on their own.
The deal comes from Grande’s partnership with a new therapy company. The company, BetterHelp, is an online service for mental health which matches up users with a licensed therapist.
So how exactly will Grande’s donation & partnership with BetterHelp bring therapy to younger fans who can’t afford conventional therapy services? Reports say fans who are lucky enough to get Grande’s gift will get one month of free service from a licensed therapist for a month. So what happens when their free month is up?
Discount
We assume the gift is meant to get interested parties started in therapy, so the gift appears to end after a month’s use of BetterHelp.
However, when a fan’s month is up, they’ll have the option to renew the service for another month at a discounted price. The second month will come to fans at fifteen percent off. So what does Ariana have to say about Christmas coming early for her fans?
Ariana’s announcement came on Instagram Tuesday, when she told fans about her big donation. She simply posted an image of text saying $1 million in therapy will be donated soon with a lengthy caption.
Thrilled
The caption reads, “thrilled to be working with @betterhelp to give away $1,000,000 of free therapy ! while acknowledging that therapy should not be for a privileged few but something everyone has access to, and acknowledging that this doesn’t fix that issue in the long run”.
Grande went on to write, “i really wanted to do this anyway in hopes of inspiring you to dip a toe in, to feel okay asking for help, and to hopefully rid your minds of any sort of self judgement in doing so! . . . i so hope that this will be a helpful starting point and that you’ll be able to build space for this in your lives and continue! healing is not linear or easy but you are worth the effort and time, i promise!”.
Mental health awareness
Grande finished out her post by thanking BetterHelp. This may be the first substantial gift Ariana is a part of in terms of therapy, but she’s reached out to her fans before on the subject.
Back in May, Grande posted some resources for her fans who might be interested in help with their mental health for Mental Health Awareness month. Grande has been outspoken about her own struggles, most famously those regarding her PTSD from the May 2017 bombing at one of her shows in England.
We can only assume Grande wants to help her fans from going through the same struggles with the help of her new partnership with BetterHelp.
