‘The Untamed’ chibi animation ‘The Founder of Diabolism Q’: Episode 1
The Untamed, a wildly popular Chinese BL drama, finished airing in 2019. However, the show’s creators caught onto the fact that The Untamed developed a rabid following worldwide. Since The Untamed finished airing, Tencent have delivered an additional twenty episode special edition of the show, hours of footage of behind-the-scenes moments, produced two spin-off films, and now have released a chibi animation. The Untamed is really the show that keeps on giving.
The Founder of Diabolism Q, the chibi animation, aired its first episode earlier this week. Tencent will release a new episode every day for a month. However, only VIP holders will be able to view that day’s episode. Non-VIP members will have to wait a day or two before viewing.
For those that don’t know, the term ‘chibi’ is a Japanese slang word that describes something that is both short and chubby. Chibi animation not only depicts the characters in this manner, but the episodes are also bite-sized. The episodes of The Founder of Diabolism Q are only five minutes each. However, in true chibi style, they are jam-packed full of cuteness that will leave your heart exploding.
In keeping with our The Untamed obsession, we watched the first episode of The Founder of Diabolism Q and we have to say, it’s incredible. Come with us as we walk you through five minutes of jaw dropping cuteness!
As the episode opens, Wei Wuxian & Nie Huaisang are at Cloud Recesses with Lan Wangji. The three young students are taking an exam, which Nie Huaisang is not happy about at all. Clearly stressed about failing, adorable little Nie Huaisang commissions the help of his buddy, Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian, ever the rascal, rises to the occasion and helps his friend out.
The noble Lan Wangji, however, isn’t having it. He notices the two boys cheating and immediately reprimands them, as all upstanding members of the Gusu Lan Sect would. Wei Wuxian ducks and misses being punished, but Nie Huisang finds himself ashed and sooty. Sorry little fella, better luck next time.
Then, clearly infatuated with Lan Wangji, during the exam Wei Wuxian attempts to get Lan Wangji’s attention. He writes a note and tucks it into the wings of his chubby little bird and sends it off to deliver the message to Lan Wangji. In a pleasing, yet unexpected turn of events that will leave you screaming “UWUUU”, the moment the bird lays eyes on Lan Wangji, he too falls in love. We get it little birdy, we really do.
Wei Wuxian continues to mess with Lan Wangji, throwing paper balls of drawings onto Lan Wangji’s table during the test. In true Lan Wangji fashion, he is not amused. We hope Wei Wuxian continues to annoy Lan Wangji throughout the whole show, because nothing is cuter than chibi Lan Wangji and his chubby little cheeks emoting angrily all over the place!
The shot then shifts to Lan Wangji checking the results of the exam. Lan Wangji scored and A+, of course, but he is surprised & annoyed to learn that so does Wei Wuxian. Poor Lan Wangji seems discontented by the fact that a mischievous rascal like Wei Wuxian could be in the same league as someone so up standing as Lan Wangji.
Nie Huaisang, on the other hand, fails. The elders are clearly angered by his failure, and the episode comes to an end with Nie Huaisang adorably running away from punishment, promising to never fail again.
That’s a wrap folks. In actuality, with opening and closing credits, this episode is only three and a half minutes long. However, it’s three and a half minutes of absolute adorableness with our favorite characters being true to themselves. We can’t wait for the next episode. Excuse us while we go and watch it again!
