Ben Young drops trailer for thriller ‘Hounds of Love’
Gunpowder & Sky Distribution have debuted the trailer for Ben Young’s crime-thriller Hounds of Love, set for limited theatrical release on May 12.
The film is set in suburban Perth during the mid-1980s, as 17-year-old Vicki Maloney finds herself at the mercy of a serial killer couple. In a bid to escape, she observes the dynamic between her captors and realizes she must drive a wedge between them to survive.
“Ben has created a relentlessly tense debut film and made his mark as a writer-director to watch. Our whole team was floored by the strength of Ben’s vision and his unique character-driven twist on the serial killer film. The cast delivers brave performances that resonate long after the film has ended,” said Hake Hanly, VP of acquisitions at Gunpowder & Sky, who acquired the thriller in February. Hanly negotiated for Gunpowder, while Eric Schnedecker represented Urban Distribution International.
“I was drawn to the idea of Hounds of Love after reading a true crime book about female serial killers,” Young said at the time. “It triggered a strong memory of fear from my childhood that was instilled by my parents as a result of crimes committed by a serial killer couple.”
We previously included Hounds of Love, dubbed the “fearless” first feature from Australian writer-director Young, on our must-see list of films at the Overlook Film Festival. It isn’t hard to see why, after catching the trailer here.
Hounds of Love stars Ashleigh Cummings (Tomorrow, When the War Began, Galore), Emma Booth (Gods of Egypt, Glitch) and Stephen Curry (The Castle, The King).
The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on May 12 in the United States, Canada and Australia.
