Behind the super glasses: Who is the intriguing new Clark Kent?
Superman is one of the most iconic and beloved characters in pop culture, having served as a symbol of hope and justice for over 80 years. Who is Superman?
The character of Superman was born on the planet Krypton, a technologically advanced world that was doomed to destruction. His parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, sent him to Earth in a rocket ship just before Krypton’s destruction. The infant crash-landed in Smallville, Kansas, where he was found by Jonathan and Martha Kent, who raised him as their own son and named him Clark.
As Clark grew up, he began to realize that he had abilities far beyond those of ordinary humans. He possessed incredible strength, the ability to fly, and a range of other powers that made him nearly invincible. He decided to use his powers for good and became the costumed hero known as Superman.
Superman made his debut in Action Comics #1 in June 1938, and the character’s popularity quickly skyrocketed. In addition to his comic book adventures, Superman appeared in radio serials, movie serials, and eventually, a television series starring George Reeves in the 1950s.
Over the years, Superman has undergone various changes and updates to his character and story. In the 1960s, the concept of multiple Earths was introduced, which allowed for different incarnations of Superman to exist simultaneously. In the 1980s, writer/artist John Byrne rebooted Superman’s origin story, updating it for modern times and streamlining his powers and abilities.
Superman’s mythology has also expanded to include a vast array of supporting characters and villains. Lois Lane, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, and Lex Luthor are just a few of the characters that have become synonymous with the Superman brand. Other notable villains include Brainiac, Doomsday, and General Zod.
Superman’s legacy has extended beyond comic books and into countless other forms of media, including movies, television shows, video games, and merchandise. He has been portrayed by actors such as Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavill, and Tyler Hoechlin, and his symbol has become one of the most recognizable logos in the world.

The new Clark Kent
Since James Gunn has taken over DC’s most recent movies as the co-boss, he is redoing the whole franchise and will start with a new film called Superman: Legacy. It’s unsure who will actually put on the iconic Clark Kent glasses, but will they ever match up to the shadow left by Henry Cavill’s epic portrayal of the glorious superhero Superman?
As reported on GoldDerby, “According to the trade, screen tests between actors and actresses on the list to play, respectively, Clark Kent and intrepid reporter Lois Lane have occurred with three distinct pairings. One test, the trade reported, had Nicholas Hoult as Clark and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois; in another, David Corenswet was matched with Emma Mackey. The final group featured Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor.”
