The question on everyone's lips is whether or not the cast of 'Idol' purposefully wanted the show to end. Look at the details here!

Did the cast of ‘The Idol’ actually cause the show to end early?

There’s no denying the uproar The Idol has been causing on HBO. This audacious drama series has been the talk of the town, thanks to its provocative content. And now, there’s another surprise on the horizon: the season finale is premiering this Sunday, concluding the show sooner than we expected.

For the uninitiated, The Idol was originally slated for a six-episode run. However, according to insider info from TVLine, some backstage drama led to a change of plan, reducing the season count to five episodes. This major shift reportedly came about when Sam Levinson took over the directorial reins.

Let’s take a look at the cast itself and what they think of the toxicity on the show.

Unsettling details

The official synopsis introduces us to Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp), a pop star grappling for her rightful place in the American music industry.

But her past emotional upheaval, a reawakened passion, and the enigmatic Tedros (essayed by Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye), a nightclub owner with a murky past, all factor into Jocelyn’s narrative. Are these elements paving her way towards unmatched success, or leading her towards a journey into her inner turmoil?

Amy Seimetz was initially expected to direct all episodes of The Idol, but left midway through. HBO confirmed the reshuffling, reassuring fans that the changes were implemented to best serve a rejuvenated creative vision for the show. However, speculation about a second season remains, despite pervasive whispers that the series was always meant to be a one-off. Does that mean the cast hates it?

Final friction

The anticipated season finale, ‘Jocelyn Forever’, is all set to air this Sunday at 9/8c. In the meantime, HBO took to Twitter to address rumors: “It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The Idol has been made. It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night.”

Sam Levinson, the brain behind Euphoria, brings an air of recklessness and boldness to The Idol, positioning it firmly in the pulsating core of the chaotic 2020s. According to Rolling Stone, The Idol purportedly outdoes Euphoria in scandal, with critics likening it to “torture porn.”

Shadowy secret

The narrative revolves around The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, navigating the muddy waters of the music industry and dipping into a chilling world of cults.

With the departure of Amy Seimetz, Levinson reportedly took the explicit content up several notches, sparking a debate about whether the series is satirizing or embodying the very thing it seems to critique. Clearly, the choice in cast makes it obvious that sex still sells in 2023.

While the series was initially conceived as the tale of a young model fighting off the predatory forces in the industry, the narrative has reportedly morphed into a contentious love story, leaving some crew members uneasy. However, Depp has praised Levinson, lauding him as the best director she’s worked with and expressing that she felt valued in the creative process.

As the finale of The Idol draws near, the question on everyone’s lips is: will the curtain rise for a second season?
