TikTok launches ‘Garden of Good’: What does this news mean for the app?

TikTok shares news that they have released a new app called Garden of Good which will not only be an addictive game, but also a cause for good. The app was officially launched on June 7th and was created in partnership with Feeding America.

This isn’t the first time TikTok has created mindful initiatives. Keep reading to learn more about the new app Garden of Good and how TikTok related sites like TokCaptain continues to participate in progressive strategies.

What is Garden of Good?

The new app from TikTok allows users to help raise money for Feeding America just by playing the simple, fun game. Users have already compared Garden of Good to the popular game Farmville

The new game allows users to grow crops and “make real-world donations to end hunger”. The more friends you invite to the game, the more you help Feeding America and aid the issue of hunger.

The game also notes: “For each pound of virtual crop an eligible participant harvests during the Program period, TikTok will donate $0.10 to Feeding America.” TikTok has also confirmed that they will donate a minimum of $150,000 and a maximum donation of $5,000,000.

How to play Garden of Good

Head over to your TikTok profile page and you’ll see a sparkling carrot icon on your top left corner. The game will have you choose your type of crop and now all you need to do is water your plants!

However, in order to earn water drops, you must complete various challenges. Challenges range from inviting friends to play or checking donation content. For every plant that has been harvested, TikTok will donate to Feeding America. The game is simple & straightforward to play, but it feels good to be helping a cause with practically no effort at all.

Other acts of charity by TikTok

This isn’t the first time TikTok has made news for their philanthropic ventures. In May, TikTok launched the Youth for Good initiative, aiming to help create mental and cyber wellness education in Singapore.

The event took place in Singapore on May 10th. TikTok stated: “In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), Ministry of Education (MOE) and National Youth Council (NYC), this initiative will equip youths with tools, resources and the platform to raise greater awareness about the social issues that affect their peers today, starting with mental and cyber wellness.”

TikTok will be supported by local non-profit organizations to create a program “to guide youths with expert industry knowledge that they can creatively transform into short-form TikTok videos to educate their peers at scale, for example, stigmatising words to avoid; how to notice and respond to preliminary signs and symptoms of mental health issues in their peers.”

The app has also been providing over $150 million to healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic by donating to various medical charities such as the CDC Foundation to support hospitals and the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

How will other social media apps respond to this news?

As TikTok is setting a new standard in allowing users to participate in fundraising efforts, perhaps other app-giants will join in. Apps such as Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube have more than what it takes to create similar charitable ventures which TikTok has released.

As we spend hours of the day on our phones, the creation of charitable entertainment will aid in what was once considered a waste of time. The creation of a simple game such as Garden of Good not only raises awareness on the problem of hunger in America but also the concept that we are all capable of making a change!
