First Look Review: Gen LaGreca’s FUGITIVE FROM ASTERON Scores Again for the Winged Victory Foundation
Gen LaGreca of the Winged Victory Foundation is back with Fugitive From Asteron, another feature-length film based upon one of LaGreca’s own bestselling Amazon books. Set in 2125, the young adult science fiction epic weaves an interstellar tale of survival and the struggle for human self-determination that exemplifies the WVF’s libertarian vision.
Starring Dean Cain of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superrman fame as well as Henry Ian Cusick, Rory Gibson, Morgan Bradley, and Jamie Stilwell, Fugitive From Asteron dares to consider what might happen if an autocratic state were to interfere with the basic human right of reproductive choice. Those on the fictional planet of Asteron who disobey are forced to become fugitives from their overly collectivistic communities and wander the stars in search of a freer existence on Earth.
Fugitive From Asteron shows how differences in social conditioning can create misunderstandings and tensions amongst members of the same human race from different planets. This of course is often seen here on Planet Earth between persons of different nationalities and cultures.
As is generally the case with LaGreca’s mission-driven films, the production values never fail to impress. Fugitive From Asteron‘s gritty yet stylish look, brooding soundtrack, and themes of hope and love put one in mind of recent science fiction blockbusters such as The Hunger Games series. Yet the concept is all LaGreca’s own and reveals a female point of view not always seen in the male-dominated, technically obsessed world of science fiction.
Having reviewed LaGreca’s earlier film Noble Vision a few years ago, this writer is all the more amazed by her depth and range. This reflects LaGreca’s years of serious scholastic preparation in the sciences and philosophy before she branched out into the very disparate fields of nonprofit management, fiction writing, filmmaking, and the performing arts.
In sum, Gen LaGreca is a true Renaissance talent whose speculative bent is being showcased in her multifaceted efforts to uplift and enlighten youth. Like our fugitive from Asteron, she has traveled far to support her distinctive vision and deserves all due respect for the flight.
