FIFA Says Japan’s Winner Over Spain That Eliminated Germany Correctly Award

‘Football’s governing body, FIFA, says Japan’s win over Spain in the World Cup qualifier was the right award. After three games in which Germany struggled to put together a competitive team, they were eliminated by a win from Japan. Ao Tanaka scored the winner, while Moriyasu and Alphonso Davies also had a hand in the victory.

Ao Tanaka scored the winning goal
Defending World Cup champions Germany were eliminated from the tournament after a 2-1 defeat to Japan in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup. The two teams were locked in a close contest at the start of the match, with Germany leading the scoreline 1-0. However, Japan exploded in the second half to score twice in three minutes. In the end, Japan topped Group E with six points.

Ao Tanaka’s goal against Spain was controversial. VAR was used to review the goal, which was awarded to Japan. However, a camera angle on the field showed the ball had not crossed the line. The ball had been delivered from the right side of the field, and the full curvature was not deemed to have crossed the line.

Alvaro Morata scored the first goal for Spain. In the 11th minute, he headed home Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross. At halftime, the Spanish were cruising into the last 16. However, Japan scored twice in the next three minutes, and the scoreline became more of a tie.

Moriyasu’s contribution to the win
Defending World Cup champions Germany were eliminated in the first round of the World Cup for the third time in 80 years. Despite finishing behind Sweden, Mexico and South Korea, Germany will be going home in the first round for the first time since 2014.

Spain, on the other hand, had already secured a place in the knockout rounds on goal difference. They defeated Costa Rica by 7-0. They will now face Morocco in the knockout rounds.

Spain, who beat Japan 7-0 over a week ago, dominated the first half. They were the only team to create any real clear chances. They only went into the interval a goal down. Their only real enemy was themselves.

Japan’s high pressing style unsettled Spain briefly in the first half. But, as the half wore on, Spain struggled to generate clear chances. They were only able to muster 12 shots, which is almost half of the expected goals.

Germany’s poor play over three games and the cruelty of group-stage math
Despite being in front at halftime, Germany squandered its chances of qualifying for the knockout phase of the World Cup. It has now failed to make the cut in two consecutive tournaments. The German Football Association will now look into the reasons for its failures.

The Germans drew with Spain 1-1 in Sunday’s group stage opener. Spain, though, advanced to the knockout stages with a better goal difference than Germany. If Germany wins its match against Costa Rica on Thursday, it will be a surefire way to advance, but Spain must lose.

Japan upset Luis Enrique’s side, though, scoring two quick goals in the second half. Costa Rica, meanwhile, levelled against Germany.

The Germans were slack in front of goal, a fact they paid for. Thomas Muller’s header was wide of the mark, and a few minutes later, Juan Pablo Vargas seemed to have scored. The VAR confirmed that the ball had not gone out of play before Tanaka tapped it home.

Alphonso Davies’ story
Having made a successful start to the FIFA World Cup, Japan is on course for another major achievement. They have won their group, and advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament. They will now play Costa Rica, who are ahead of them on goal difference.

Despite scoring two goals in the second half, Spain were outplayed by Germany and Costa Rica. The two teams combined to score two goals in just over a minute. But Japan was also able to score a late goal, putting them ahead of Spain.

The game also saw Spain’s Alvaro Morata score the first goal of the tournament. The Spanish had the chance to take the lead before halftime, but Thibaut Courtois made a save. The ball was pushed to the side by Courtois.

But in the second half, Japan had the ball. Ritsu Doan was able to score the equaliser. Then Ao Tanaka scored the winning goal. It was a stunning turnaround from a Kaoru Mitoma cut-back.
