Has ‘Avatar 2’ made its cast billionaires?
A good movie can change the whole crew’s lives & bank accounts. We know Avatar 1 was successful enough to put James Cameron on the way to becoming a billionaire, but will this be the case for the cast of Avatar 2? Yet, we need to consider that the cinematic industry works entirely different from the T.V. one. T.V. series get the chance to create hundreds of chapters that would be produced, charged and paid for in an entirely different way. How was it for Avatar 2?
Avatar 2 was probably one of the most awaited movies. Originally, it was supposed to premiere in 2015, but as the effects weren’t ready yet, Cameron made us wait for another seven years. However, the wait was worth it, but do the cast think the same way? Avatar 2: The cast
In Film Daily, we’re big fans of Avatar and we’ve talked about it in several articles, but we haven’t talked about the cast till now. Scripts are the most fundamental part of any audiovisual project, without a script there’s nothing to do, but the cast will end up bringing those lines to life. Also, being completely honest, actors are one of the main reasons people attend cinemas, the so-called stars system.
We have Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, who made a human appearance in Avatar before falling in love with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and becoming part of Na’vi. The beautiful daughter of this heart melting couple is Kiri, played by Sigourney Weaver. We also have Spider, Jack Champion, a human born on Pandora. Although there are many other characters, we couldn’t skip the iconic Kate Winslet as Ronal.
Other important cast members of Avatar 2 are: Cliff Curtis as Tiwari, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, and Matt Gerald as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet. Bailey Bass plays beautiful Reya, Joel David Moore plays Norm Spellman and there’s even an appearance of Vin Diesel. Undoubtedly, Avatar’s 2 cast is insuperable.
All those years of fine production made Avatar 2 the most high grossing film of 2022, although it competed with titles like Tom Cruise’s Top Gun Maverick. There was no way this movie wasn’t an economic success, the first Avatar has grossed a $2.9 billion mark till date. The general movie did cover its financial purposes, but what about the cast? How much did the Avatar 2 cast charge?
As we mentioned before, this cast holds big names, which certainly charged millions for their appearances, but let’s take a closer look. Worthington received around $10 million for his role as Jake, to that, we must add a 5% share of the film’s profits. About Saldana’s there’s no punctual register of the amount she charged for this role, yet it’s known that it was a little less than Worthington’s.
Weaver, who originally played Dr. Grace Augustine in Avatar 1, was actually the highest paid actor of the whole cast, receiving $11 million. On the other hand, Winslet received less than half of Weaver’s salary, something around $6 million. The truth is that each actor charges differently according to their fame, visibility and time on screen. Cast members might not be billionaires, but they did get a piece of cake.
