Are you dying to get some news about Olivia Wilde's upcoming film 'Don't Worry Darling'? Take a look at the teaser that dropped today for the 2022 movie.

When will Olivia Wilde’s ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ finally be released?

Olivia Wilde has announced the release date of her upcoming horror movie, Don’t Worry Darling, starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. The film will be Wilde’s second time directing a feature-length project after Booksmart, the comedy starring Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein. Don’t Worry Darling comes from New Line and Warner Bros.

Along with the announcement of the release date, Wilde posted the first teaser featuring footage from the movie. The brief clips feature Pugh sitting poolside, making out with Styles, looking distressed while underwater, and peeling plastic wrap from her face. The film has already generated a lot of buzz since production was first announced due to the success of Wilde’s first feature and the casting of Pugh & Styles.

As for the release date itself, we’ve got you covered. Don’t Worry Darling is expected to hit theaters on September 23rd, 2022. Head to Wilde’s social media accounts to see the teaser trailer. This will be Wilde’s first feature since her breakthrough with Booksmart in 2019. The general outline of the plot is that Pugh will portray Alice, who begins to suspect her husband Jack (Styles) is up to something sinister.

With how far away the release is set, fans of Wilde, Pugh, and/or Styles are hoping there won’t be any complications that prohibit the movie being seen in theaters. Hopefully, by the time the film is released, the pandemic will have died down, and viewers will be able to attend theaters safely. Many have also noted that the release date puts the movie at the prime time to be considered for awards during awards season.

Booksmart Success

In 2019, Booksmart marked Wilde’s directorial debut. Dever & Feldstein play two studious high school seniors who are best friends. During their last night of high school, they decide to do all the partying they never did while they were busy trying to get into college. The movie was produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, and notably starred Lisa Kudrow and Jason Sudekis (Wilde’s husband at the time) in supporting roles.

During filming, Dever & Feldstein lived together in order to embody the closeness their characters shared on-screen. The movie was well-received by critics & audiences, indicating viewers admired the fresh take on the familiar coming-of-age comedy formula. Booksmart has been called the female version of Superbad, due to similarities in the premise of each film.

The cast was a high point of praise from critics & audiences. Its depiction of queer romance was also a highlight for many. Booksmart won best first feature at the Independent Spirit Awards, and Feldstein was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance.

Don’t Worry Darling

Don’t Worry Darling will be Wilde’s first period drama, set in the 1950s. Pugh’s Alice is a housewife while her husband Jack (Styles) works for a mysterious company. The community the couple are living in is described as utopian in a way, but of course conceals something dark underneath it all.

Not only is Wilde directing Don’t Worry Darling, but she will also produce and appear in the film herself. Other notable cast members include Chris Pine, who was featured briefly in a clip from the teaser trailer, as well as Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, and KiKi Layne.

Wilde stated that the movie will initially only be available to view in theaters until a later home and streaming release (remember the days when that was normal?). We would also like to inform our fellow Twilight apologists that Twilight director Catherine Harwicke is listed as an executive producer on the project.
