If ever there was a year that the world collectively needed a spa day, then it’s 2020. Of course, given that you probably don’t want a stranger touching your face for pandemic related reasons, it’ll probably be an at-home spa day as well. Honestly, those spa days are definitely ideal. You don’t even have to change out of your pajamas to have a spa day! That’s just the best.
Now, of course, there’s only so much of tried and true spa tricks to do before you get bored. How do you get the ultimate spa day experience? Self-care is utterly important right now, so here are some tips & tricks to get the ultimate spa experience in the comfort of your own home. Take a look at these ideas we’ve dug up so you can truly release nirvana of relaxation.

Bath time + mask time
Feeling too keyed before bed? Scrolling through the doom and gloom of social media? Anxiety rearing its head after watching the evening news? Go and take a bath. Better year, combine a nice, warm bath with a face mask. In order to get more spa day vibes to bath time, then toss in some aromatic chamomile and rosemary to help calm and hydrate your skin for a long soak.
Don’t have that on hand? Light your favorite scented candle instead. In addition to the bath, you should apply your favorite mask while you soak. If you don’t have that mask money, then make a DIY mask to help out. We recommend this DIY matcha mask, which is super easy to make!
You need 1 ½ teaspoons water, 1 tablespoon matcha or green tea, 1 ½ teaspoon of honey, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Keep it on your skin for 10 minutes before rinsing off to enjoy some seriously hydrated skin. The mask “strengthens your capillary walls and increases circulation, giving your skin a smooth, pillowy softness.” Plus, it’ll smell awesome.
Make moisturizing your new best friend
Transitioning from Fall to Winter? Your skin is probably going to take the hit with the seasons changing. It’s time to make sure to moisturize like there’s no tomorrow! The easiest of these is a lip mask. Pick up an extra-hydrating balm and just slather on a thick layer before heading to bed. Do a lighter layer in the day if your lips are feeling a bit on the chapped side.
All the handwashing and using sanitizer that has become part of our COVID lives leaving your hands feeling dry? Get a good moisturizing cream. While you’re rubbing it into your skin, then try to give yourself a bit of a hand massage as well. Since you’re already doing it, then you might as well go all in. These are easier ways to squeeze some self-care into your evening over all.
Bath bombs, baby
Whether you want to feel like a fairy princess or go full on witchy vibes, there’s a bath bomb out there for you. Not only does the explosion of color in the water make you feel like a kid again, the essential oils and other things that make up a bath bomb are really good for your skin. It’s just giving you a major dose of those things. The scents are usually picked to help with mindfulness as well.

Pedicure time
Are your feet aching from all that pacing around you’ve been doing? Time for an at-home spa pedicure! To help soothe those aches and treat calluses, soaking your feet in some bath salts can help majorly. You don’t even need to hang out in your tub to do so. Get a big bowl, fill it with warm water, add the salts, and then chill out with Netflix.
Want to get rid of the icky dead skin? Consider investing in a pumice stone. It’s easy to buff away dead skin on your feet, helping to deal with callouses, and that leads to more relaxation. Afterwards, paint your toenails if you’re into that part of the pedicure as well.
Three words: lymphatic body massage
This version of the lymphatic drainage massage can be done either in or after a shower. Seriously, it’s not that difficult to do at home and you’ll feel tons better for it. Gently massage your body away from extremities and up toward your collarbones. For everything above the neck, massage down toward your collarbone using a small amount of pressure.
