DNEG Animation rebuilt much of Red’s fur, facial rig and expressions for “The Angry Birds Movie 3,” even though the red-feathered hero appears reassuringly familiar.

As the studio reconstructed those elements, it also developed a system that ultimately automated character-effects work on roughly 75% of the film.
