Save ‘Shadowhunters’ S3b countdown: #SaveShadowhunters
We’ve partnered with the amazing folks at @BoomBitchesSH to help raise awareness around the historic marketing that the Shadowfam have been doing for Shadowhunters season 3b. Today we reveal the first part of the exclusive 3b poster.
Following the cancellation of Freeform’s Shadowhunters, fans have been working around the clock and around the globe to keep the award-winning fantasy show alive in the minds of fans and networks alike.
In anticipation of the Spring launch of the second half of the show’s third season, fan-led campaign group @BoomBitchesSH booked a billboard campaign in Los Angeles to advertise the show for a month (starting February 11th) as well as spread the #SaveShadowhunters message.
This is the latest in a long line of crowdfunded projects carried out since the show’s cancellation was announced on June 4th, 2018. With larger projects organized by fans from around the world such as a flying a plane over Netflix headquarters, billboards going up in Times Square, Seoul, and Toronto and banners on the classic red double-decker buses in London, this fandom has basically done it all.
Over the past few months prior to having an air date for the show, @BoomBitchesSH has focused their efforts on smaller campaigns, targeting networks directly as well as sending gifts of appreciation to the cast and crew of their beloved show.
If you need to know how much it costs to put a drone light show on in L.A.’s night skies (way more than the fandom can afford, turns out) or for cupcakes, balloons, flowers, and other small gifts to be delivered worldwide, they can tell you.
In addition to the billboards set to go up in Los Angeles, there will also be a mobile billboard advertisement and a flyer team handing out printed materials for five days in the direct leadup to the Shadowhunters premiere date.
Once a decision was made on which direction to take the campaign and after a lot of negotiation, advertisement spots were secured and paid for. All that was left was the artwork, which was a much harder task than originally anticipated. As this is a fan-led campaign, naturally it was decided the design should also originate from the fandom.
We don’t want to spoil too much, so all we can say for now is that an absolute fandom icon was enlisted to create the poster design. We can’t wait for you all to see this epic work of art. Keep checking back here for our daily poster reveals!
Campaign Outcomes and Legacy
The billboards and flyers rolled out in early 2019 ahead of the February 25 premiere, yet the campaign did not lead to a renewal. The coordinated global projects, from drone shows to international banners, are now preserved in fan archives as a record of how far the Shadowfam pushed to keep the series visible.
Current Streaming Availability
All three seasons remain available on Hulu in the United States. Viewers have until January 1, 2026 to finish the show on Netflix before it departs the platform globally, after which Hulu becomes the primary option for most American audiences.
Fandom Persistence Post-Series
Without the immediate pressure of a save campaign, the Shadowfam has settled into steady routines. Regular convention panels, scheduled rewatches, and active online groups continue to connect fans who first bonded during the 2018 and 2019 efforts.
Book Series Continuation
The television adaptation drew from Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments novels, and the wider Shadowhunter universe keeps expanding. New installments in The Wicked Powers series are slated for release in 2026 and 2027, giving readers fresh stories set in the same world.
Cast Career Updates
Katherine McNamara and Matthew Daddario have each taken on new series and film roles since the finale, while still appearing together at occasional fan conventions. Their continued visibility keeps the original cast in the spotlight even as the show itself remains a completed chapter.
The Shadowfam’s 2019 push stands as a clear example of organized, creative fan labor that reached studios, networks, and fellow viewers alike. Although the series ended after its May 6, 2019 finale, the documentation of those efforts and the ongoing community activity around the completed show show how lasting that work has been.
