Save ‘Shadowhunters’ S3b countdown: Power
We’ve partnered with the amazing folks at @BoomBitchesSH to help raise awareness around the historic marketing that the Shadowfam have been doing for Shadowhunters season 3b. Today we reveal the first part of the exclusive 3b poster.
Following the cancellation of Freeform’s Shadowhunters, fans have been working around the clock and around the globe to keep the award-winning fantasy show alive in the minds of fans and networks alike.
In anticipation of the Spring launch of the second half of the show’s third season, fan-led campaign group @BoomBitchesSH booked a billboard campaign in Los Angeles to advertise the show for a month (starting February 11th) as well as spread the #SaveShadowhunters message.
LA billboards and related promotions ran leading up to the February 25 2019 premiere. Series finale aired May 6 2019.
This is the latest in a long line of crowdfunded projects carried out since the show’s cancellation was announced on June 4th, 2018. With larger projects organized by fans from around the world such as a flying a plane over Netflix headquarters, billboards going up in Times Square, Seoul, and Toronto and banners on the classic red double-decker buses in London, this fandom has basically done it all. Over the past few months prior to having an air date for the show, @BoomBitchesSH has focused their efforts on smaller campaigns, targeting networks directly as well as sending gifts of appreciation to the cast and crew of their beloved show. If you need to know how much it costs to put a drone light show on in L.A.’s night skies (way more than the fandom can afford, turns out) or for cupcakes, balloons, flowers, and other small gifts to be delivered worldwide, they can tell you. In addition to the billboards set to go up in Los Angeles, there will also be a mobile billboard advertisement and a flyer team handing out printed materials for five days in the direct leadup to the Shadowhunters premiere date. Once a decision was made on which direction to take the campaign and after a lot of negotiation, advertisement spots were secured and paid for. All that was left was the artwork, which was a much harder task than originally anticipated. As this is a fan-led campaign, naturally it was decided the design should also originate from the fandom. We don’t want to spoil too much, so all we can say for now is that an absolute fandom icon was enlisted to create the poster design. We can’t wait for you all to see this epic work of art. Keep checking back here for our daily poster reveals!
Plane over Netflix, international billboards, and London bus banners were executed prior to the spring premiere.
Legacy of the #SaveShadowhunters Campaign
The coordinated push to keep Shadowhunters on the air stands out as one of the largest fan efforts in recent television history. Millions of tweets, signed petitions, and coordinated stunts flooded timelines and network inboxes alike. International billboards and creative stunts drew attention from media outlets and casual viewers who had never watched the series. Despite the scale, the campaign did not result in renewal, and the series concluded with its May 2019 finale.
Shadowhunters in the Broader Franchise
The television adaptation ended, yet Cassandra Clare continues expanding the Shadowhunter universe through new novels. The Wicked Powers trilogy picks up the story after the events of the show. The first book is slated for Fall 2026. Readers who followed the series on screen still have fresh material to explore within the same world.
Where the Cast Is Now
Seven years after the finale, several lead actors have moved into new projects across film and television. Katherine McNamara has taken on lead roles in action series and independent features. Matthew Daddario has appeared in both streaming dramas and studio films. Other cast members continue working steadily in supporting roles and voice work. None have confirmed a return to the Shadowhunters property at this time.
Fan Community Persistence
Online spaces dedicated to the series remain active well into 2026. Fans share nostalgic clips, discuss favorite episodes, and occasionally float ideas for potential returns or spin-offs. While no official revival has materialized, the conversations keep the show visible among newer audiences discovering the series through streaming platforms.
The #SaveShadowhunters movement demonstrated how dedicated viewers can organize across continents with striking speed and creativity. The campaigns preserved the show’s visibility during its final season and left a record of what organized fandom can achieve even when renewal remains out of reach.
