3 Things To Look For in A High Quality Pillow Case

After working a long day at your office or place of business, the one thing you are likely looking forward to is getting a good night’s sleep – one that consists of at least anywhere between 6-8 hours of sleep. In order to get that comfortable night of sleep, the one thing you absolutely have to do is lie on a comfortable pillow and a clean and hygienic pillowcase. So, if you are trying to find the best pillow and pillow case, what are the three things to look for? We’ve got a great list for you below.

Antimicrobial Silver

Experts have found that for those who are sideways sleepers, the pillowcase that you sleep on can have a huge role to play not only in the quality of your sleep but also in your skincare and whether you are acne-prone. As a result, the pillow cases that you sleep on do immediately correlate to the quality of your skin.

That is, the bacteria, dirt, and sebum that are present on your face as a result of everyday activity do collect on the pillowcase even if you have engaged in a rigorous facial regimen. Given that most people tend to use their pillowcases for lengthy periods of time, and even for – at the very least –3-4 nights in a row, this can lead the skin to feel irritated and, as a result, be acne-prone.

One way to address an acne problem that emerges as a result of one’s pillow case can be to get your hands on an antimicrobial pillow case that has antimicrobial silver. The benefit of antimicrobial silver is that it assists with slowing down and preventing the spreading of germs – especially very particular germs that aid along acne problems.

These antimicrobial linens are also great because they manage to stop the spread of disease and bacteria growth through silver strands that are finer than human hair and are woven into every piece. This is possible because the silver (which carries a positive charge) is attracted to the bacteria (which carries a negative charge) and then breaks the bacteria’s cell wall.

As a result of this process, these antimicrobial linens are able to destroy the infectious organisms existent in these materials before they have a chance to reproduce. These materials include bacteria, odor, fungus, mildew, and mold. In addition to these acne-causing problems, antimicrobial materials can also withstand bleach and peroxide and maintain infection control.

When in Doubt, Go With Cotton

In terms of quality, most agree that the best material for pillowcases is high-quality cotton – a material that is both very soft and breathable. When you are picking the cotton pillow case to go with, experts suggest choosing one that is a fairly high thread count – perhaps in the range of 350 to 500. In the case of those with a 350 thread count, this kind of pillow case is made with long-staple cotton – which in many cases tends to be sourced from places such as India.

If, however, you are looking for a higher thread count – as in the case of those pillowcases that are 500 thread count – these tend to be made of high-quality Supima cotton in a sateen weave. Not only do these pillowcases make for an ultra-luxurious experience – as is the case when you are on vacation and visiting a top-notch hotel – but they are made from high-quality materials.

Long Term Quality

For those of you in the market for a pillow, you will know that the worst thing about buying a pillow is when you spend a ton of money, and the quality just isn’t there. Sometimes these pillows do not feel good to the touch; in other moments, they may actually be quite uncomfortable during sleeping hours, and in other instances, still, they might be terrible in quality and start unraveling or discoloration once washed.

If you are hoping to avoid these challenges and pick up a pillow that is going to be worth the money spent and give you the long-term quality you are desiring, you definitely want to find a pillow that will not easily fray and unravel, one that the color and zippers remains consistent and intact after numerous washes, and one where everyday discoloration from sweat, dirt, grime won’t be a threat. To ensure that your pillow has the longest life possible, we also suggest having a shower before bed to ensure that when your skin does touch the sheets, it encounters the least amount of resistance possible.

However, if you are not always able to shower in the evening, you can also introduce a particular laundry solution to ensure a long life. This solution includes combining dish soap, baking soda, or a little bit of vinegar together. Not only does this solution help get those stubborn yellowed stains out, but it also means that you can avoid using any harsh staining and bleaching chemicals such as benzoyl peroxide and alpha hydroxy acids.
