Celebrities in Scientology: Why did actress Laura Prepon leave?
For most of us, we all may have heard of Scientology as the very controversial and extreme religion that many celebrities are currently or secretly a part of. While it may be looked down upon by most regular people, there seems to be a growing trend for all the biggest stars and celebrities to jump on board with this belief. However, actress Laura Prepon is speaking up after being a part of the church herself. Let’s look at the details.
Leaving it all behind
Many big stars and celebrities are part of the church of Scientology, and once upon a time, actress Laura Prepon was one of the members herself. In the past, she had often spoken out about the church and praised it constantly in recent years throughout her acting career. However, it seems that the star has moved on from the belief. In a recent interview, the actress shared with the world that she was no longer practicing the religion.
On Tuesday, August 17th, the star shared that she actually quietly left the controversial church of Scientology years ago. Laura Prepon shared to People magazine that she had always been an open-minded individual and has tried out many beliefs and religious lifestyles, but stated that she was over the belief for good. She shared: “I’m no longer practicing Scientology. I’ve always been very open-minded, even since I was a child”.
She revealed that she had been introduced to many different types of religions and beliefs throughout her life, which was why she decided to open herself up to the Scientology world in the past. The actress revealed: “I was raised Catholic and Jewish. I’ve prayed in churches, meditated in temples. I’ve studied Chinese meridian theory. I haven’t practiced Scientology in close to five years and it’s no longer part of my life”.
Why did she leave it all behind?
So now the only question stands, which is just why did Laura Prepon change her mind? After all, the actress joins one of the many celebrities who have joined and left behind the church of Scientology. Well, it turns out that the star did not reveal too much information as to why she made such a big lifestyle change, but once upon a time, we can all remember when she credited the church for helping her out big time mentally.
The star first joined the church all the way back in the year of 1999, and stated in the past that Scientology was what first helped her gain control of her emotions and mental state. She expressed to the Scientology-affiliated magazine Celebrity back in 2014 that “When I first got into Scientology, I did Personal Values and Integrity and then Overcoming Ups and Downs in Life”.
“These courses touched on the observations I was aware of when I was younger. It was right there in black and white. It was amazing, and I felt that finally something was speaking my language. It totally connected with me. Pretty soon after that, I got onto the Purification Rundown, and I started moving up the Bridge”, she said in the past.
However, it does seem like being a mother may have had something to do with her growth and saying her farewells to the church of Scientology. When she spoke of her family, which includes husband Ben Foster and a four-year-old daughter and sixteen-month-old son, she reflected on how much motherhood has changed her life and outlook.
She said: “As a brand new mother, I was reflecting so much on my own upbringing and the way I was mothered. I was forced to look at a lot of things in my life that I wasn’t looking at before. If motherhood has taught me anything so far, it’s that something can work out for a period of time and then you move on and evolve from that”.
