One Direction, often shortened to 1D, is one of the most successful boy bands in history. The group formed on the British television show The X Factor, where each of the five members auditioned and originally competed as a solo performer. However, early in the season, they were advised to pool their talents and became the band that we know and love today.

The group consists of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. One Direction’s debut album, Up All Night, was released in 2011 and quickly became a worldwide hit. The album featured the chart-topping singles “What Makes You Beautiful” and “One Thing.”

Over the course of their career, One Direction has released five studio albums, sold over 70 million records, and become one of the most influential pop acts of the decade. They have won nearly 200 awards, including seven Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, and four American Music Awards.

While the group was together, each member also embarked on their own solo career. Zayn was the first to leave the group in March 2015, citing stress as the reason. The other members continued on for another year before announcing an indefinite hiatus in August 2016.

Since then, each member has continued to make music and pursue their own solo careers. Harry Styles has become the most successful member, with his self-titled debut album reaching number one in multiple countries. Niall Horan has also achieved success with his solo music, with his debut album Flicker reaching number one in Ireland and the United States.

Despite the members going their separate ways, the legacy of One Direction continues to live on. Their music still resonates with fans around the world, and their impact on pop culture cannot be denied. From their humble beginnings on a talent show to becoming global superstars, One Direction has left an indelible mark on the music industry.

For the first time in six years, Zayn Malik is sitting down for an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast after announcing his plans to release more music soon. 

He’s finally revealed his reasons behind leaving One Direction so abruptly and some inside gossip about what it was like to be a part of one of the biggest boybands in history. Whether you liked them or not, you could never escape their list of songs from playing on the radio repeatedly. Even now, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and more have been dominating the charts with each solo release. 

As reported on BBC, ““The star quit the band in the middle of their 2015 world tour, initially saying he had taken a break due to “stress”. But speaking to the Call Her Daddy podcast, Zayn said he’d realised the band’s days were numbered when other members refused to sign new contracts. “I knew something was happening, so I just got ahead of the curve,” he said. “I was like, ‘I’m just going to get out of here, I think this is done’.”

He continued: “I just seen it [coming] and I completely selfishly wanted to be the first person to go and make my own record. If I’m being completely honest with you, I was like, ‘I’m going to jump the gun here’. “I’m a passive dude, but when it comes to my music and my business, I’m serious about it and I’m competitive, so I wanted to be the first to go and do my own thing. That was the reason.””
