#GirlBoss: All the hottest brands owned by movie stars
Celebrities, they’re just like us, right? They go grocery shopping just like us, have relationships just like us, and run multinational corporations as their side gigs just like us. To celebrate some of our favorite ever female celebrity girlbosses, here’s our rundown of the hottest companies owned by your favorite female movie stars.
Alicia Silverstone: mykind Organics
Silverstone exploded onto the scene with her iconic appearance in an Aerosmith music video as an ass-kicking wild child, America was immediately obsessed. She went on to play the VSCO girl of our dreams, Cher, in the teen cult flick Clueless, and she’s been one of our favorites ever since.
You probably didn’t know that alongside her acting career, Alicia Silverstone has now undertaken a new challenge. In the quest to find a certified organic, non-GMO vitamin, she ended up making her own.
Mykind Organics is the first vegan supplement line that’s certified organic, non-GMO verified, and free of synthetic fillers and binders. Mykind Organics is the result of a collaboration between the actress & wellness advocate and Garden of Life.
Talking of the company, Alicia Silverstone described:
“This vitamin journey began when I was pregnant with my son, Bear. In order to grow the healthiest little human possible, I was already feeding my body with all the clean, nutrition-packed foods that had transformed my health years ago.
“But because these babies can be little nutrition vampires – and because some days were not all sunshine and kale – I wanted to have peace of mind that I was getting every health-supporting vitamin and mineral that my body needed during this special time.
“I embarked on a quest to find the cleanest prenatal vitamin possible, ideally one that was aligned with the way I eat: organic, non-GMO, plant-based, and free of funky processed junk. I didn’t want a bottle of chemical isolates dressed up with organic fluff. The vitamin I wanted to take didn’t exist. So I went looking for a partner – the stars aligned with Garden of Life – and I co-founded mykind Organics.”
Gwyneth Paltrow: Goop
If you’ve read Film Daily at all, you’ll know we have a lot of love for Margot Tenenbaum from The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). In this Wes Anderson movie, Paltrow embodies the smoking, deadpan, weird girl who everyone either wanted to be or wanted to be with (or maybe a bit of both).
Defined by her missing finger, thick eyeliner, and a deep air of sardonic sadness, Paltrow plays the character perfectly, depicting a numbness that makes her palpable loneliness all the more painful.
In real life, we’re impressed by Gwyneth Paltrow’s business acumen and her leadership of the “lifestyle brand” Goop. The brand which had humble beginnings as a weekly email newsletter is now an online lifestyle destination. Goop is currently valued at $250 million! With such a successful company under her belt, we’re not surprised Gwyneth Paltrow is working less and less as an actress these days.
Jessica Alba: The Honest Company
The Honest Company is an American organic goods company founded by actress Jessica Alba. The company was created around the ethos of “ethical consumerism”. In 2016, The Honest Company made over $250 million in revenue and was valued just shy of $1 billion as of October 2017.
It’s said that Jessica Alba was inspired to start the company by the 2008 birth of her first child. She vowed to create a company which could provide an alternative to the toxic baby products which included petrochemicals and synthetic fragrances that she found on the market. Nowadays, The Honest Company has a range of over 100 products which all stay true to the original core values of the brand. Way to go, Jessica!
