Here’s why ‘Milf Manor’ might just be the most cringe TV show ever

MILF Island, a fictional Bravo reality show featured in 30 Rock‘s second season, immediately came to mind when TLC announced they would be doing a show called MILF Manor. Even TLC joked about it, but the ads promised a twist. They kept it secret; they sent no screeners to critics. But if you look at the title, do you think the big twist was too hard to figure out?

Eight women, all in their 40s and 50s and single, put on their most attractive attire before entering the villa. To their surprise, rather than being greeted by a room full of hot younger men as they had been expecting, they were met only by each other. Having been through previous marriages and long-term relationships, these ladies– Soyoung, April J, April W, Charlene, Shannon, Pola, Kelle, and Stefany– have a vast array of experience to draw from.

It’s time to meet the guys they’re going to date. A partition is removed and – horrors! – they find out they are each other’s, grown sons!

At the villa, the mother-son combos will be roommates, but there will be challenges to determine which mom knows their sons best; the winners will be able to stay for one night in one of two mack-daddy suites where they don’t have to leave a sock on the door to let each other know the room is, um, occupied. When moms are blindfolded, they have to feel the bare pecs and abs of the men and identify which one is their son (ewww!).

To put it briefly, it’s kind of impressive how the producers managed to convince some mothers and sons to go on a dating show, despite the obvious conflicts of interest. The boys are young and trusting, but you’d expect the moms to be more suspicious. Considering the somewhat unsavory circumstances, MILF Manor should be given some credit for pulling off this feat.

The ick factor is pretty high in this show, mainly because of the reasons outlined above. With this combination of parental protection, moms seeing their sons making out with other women and vice versa, and the idea that these middle-aged singletons are DTF, we think the producers thought sparks would be unheard of on reality television.
