How is Jimmy Kimmel’s net worth looking in 2020?
2020 is taking no prisoners. Everyone’s past is coming to light, and people are being called out for their problematic behaviors left and right. Latest victim to fall for the “blackface” scandals is Jimmy Kimmel.
Host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel started building his net worth through a little show on Comedy Central called The Man Show, which was just full of questionable jokes and segments. One of the most questionable being a segment where Kimmel would go out in blackface trying to impersonate basketball player Karl Malone.
Along with that controversy, an interview with Megan Fox where Kimmel laughs at her story about being sexualized at 15 by Michael Bay resurfaced. So the odds were not in Kimmel’s favor whatsoever.
“Taking the summer off”
Kimmel claims that his plans to take a summer vacation from the show was pre-planned, but we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the company’s nice way of suspending Kimmel due to his controversy.
In his absence, several guest hosts will take over Jimmy Kimmel Live. So far, the line up of guest hosts include Anthony Anderson and Billy Eichner, with more to come as the summer progresses. Kimmel will return to the host seat come September.
Half an apology
While also announcing his summer vacation, Kimmel apologized for his actions on The Man Show involving blackface. In the apology, Jimmy Kimmel says he was just trying to do an impersonation of Malone, and saw painting his skin as the same as getting his bald head and pulsing muscles.
But in the apology, he fails to acknowledge the Megan Fox interview at all, or claims he used to say the N-word all the time during those same skits. So while people are glad to see him address the allegations, they feel cheaped out that Kimmel is only addressing some of the allegations.
A cancelled show?
Like most of these allegations, people are wanting to hit Jimmy Kimmel where it hurts: his net worth. Plenty have called for ABC to either fire Jimmy Kimmel from the show and replace him, or completely cancel Jimmy Kimmel Live. Since Kimmel failed to completely acknowledge his problematic past, people are not happy with him as host.
ABC has yet to address the controversy, past sharing information on the guest hosts and this week’s guests on the show. Especially with Kimmel set to host the 2020 Emmy Awards (assuming they’re still happening), it’ll be interesting to see if ABC makes a statement or not.
Then again, Jimmy Kimmel Live’s ratings are still great, and Jimmy Kimmel as a host usually gets the numbers for awards shows up at least a little bit. The Emmys are set to air on ABC, so they’ll want the numbers to look as best as possible. If this controversy doesn’t completely knock Kimmel down, it’s very unlikely they’ll fire him anytime soon.
