Has Olivia Rodrigo’s drama found its way into ‘HSMTMTS’ season 2?
Who doesn’t love the newest it-girl in the pop music scene, Miss Olivia Rodrigo herself? After all, her new album titled Sour has topped the Billboards charts and has been virtually everyone’s music obsession lately. But of course, we can’t forget about where her fame all began. She first broke out as a star thanks to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and HSMTMTS is currently streaming season two on Disney Plus.
Of course, there has been tons of speculations by fans that most of the love and heartbreak songs on Sour were inspired by a certain HSMTMTS co-star (cough, cough, we’re looking at you, Joshua Bassett), but now it seems that the real-life speculated drama could be seeping into season two in the show as well. Want to know all of the details? Let’s take a look at all that we know about the show so far here.
Her rising fame
It truly seems like Olivia Rodrigo is on her way to taking over the pop music world, that is, if she isn’t already. Her album has been dominating the music charts and trending all over TikTok. If you’re a new fan of the pop singer and want more of her, you can start by streaming season two of HSMTMTS which is available to watch on Disney Plus. In High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Olivia Rodrigo stars as Nini Salazar-Roberts.
If you didn’t know already, Olivia Rodrigo first was recognized for her songwriting abilities when she wrote a song for the show herself which went on to immediately become a hit. Her first song was titled “All I Want”, which ended up being used for the first season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. “All I Want” even went on to become a TikTok hot just like her other songs like “Driver’s License” and “Deja Vu”.
To that, Olivia Rodrigo said: “I don’t think I would be where I am today if people on that show hadn’t given me that insane opportunity, so I feel really grateful. I wrote that song entirely by myself, like in my bedroom in Utah. It was actually one of the first songs that got big because of TikTok, which is crazy”. Well, we couldn’t be happier that producers decided to take a chance on her songwriting, and we now have the gift that is Sour.
Season two
So what has been going on in season two of HSMTMTS? The second season first premiered on Disney Plus on May 14th, and has still been continuing to roll out one by one each week. And yes, tons have been going on in the show. Of course, lots of romance, lots of drama, and lots of singing as well. As for Nini Salazar-Roberts and Richard Bowen, the season began with the relationship jeopardized.
The season two premiere of HSMTMTS titled “New Year’s Eve” began with Nini revealing she was moving to Denver, shocking Richard and of course complicating their relationship. However, season two has given them some very sweet moments as well. For instance, when the two sing their duet “Even When/The Best Part” together in the show, it’s a sentimental moment for their long-distance relationship.
Of course, season two of HSMTMTS is far from over, so we have no idea how this will all end and what the fate of Richard and Nini will look like by the end of the season. However, Olivia Rodrigo herself did promise that things will get interesting, and told PEOPLE: “I can’t give too much away, but the romance is hot in this season, not only just with my character but also with other characters”.
“I think that you’re going to get to see a lot more, sort of, relationship drama. So I’m excited for people to see that”, the actress and musician added. She also expressed to PEOPLE that she was “so excited for the new characters that are in season two. I’m so excited for how we explore other characters that we didn’t really in season one”.
