Buckle up, because we’re about to spill the tea on how Barbie and her crew turned the world into a pink paradise!

Exactly how did the new ‘Barbie’ movie cause a pink paint crisis?

Is Barbie ready to paint the town pink? Hold on to your pearls, folks, because Barbie is making a grand entrance in her live-action film, and she’s not holding back on the pink! The film is set to premier in less than two months, and the world is anxiously awaiting what promises to be an epic Barbie extravaganza.

Buckle up, because we’re about to spill the tea on how Barbie and her crew turned the world into a pink paradise!

Pink-out

The geniuses behind the movie, production designer Sarah Greenwood, set decorator Katie Spencer, and director Greta Gerwig, gave us a glimpse into the making in a recent profile with Architectural Digest. Barbie’s Dreamhouse was the star of the show. The team wanted the world to relive the sheer joy and “kid-ness” of playing with Barbie, and what better way to do that than by bathing everything in pink!

“The world ran out of pink,” declared Greenwood. No, that’s not an exaggeration. The team was so determined to capture the magical essence of Barbie that they literally caused an international pink paint shortage.

They cleaned out Rosco, the company that supplied the signature shade of pink for the set. Lauren Proud, VP of global marketing at Rosco, confirmed with the Los Angeles Times that Barbie’s team did indeed “clean [them] out on paint.”

The dolls

To create Barbie’s whimsical world, the crew drew inspiration from the stunning Palm Springs’ Kaufmann House, San Francisco’s Queen Anne Victorian architecture, Wayne Thiebaud’s paintings, and classic flicks like Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and Gene Kelly’s An American in Paris.

But that’s not all! Imagine sliding into a pool instead of walking down stairs, or taking an elevator that matches your dress instead of trudging upstairs. The sets and props for Barbie’s world include over-the-top, stunningly pink mansions, lavish furniture, stylish wardrobes, and even pink cars and roads. Yes, the lamp posts are pink too!

Greta Gerwig emphasized the importance of maintaining the childlike wonder in the film. “I wanted the pinks to be very bright, and everything to be almost too much,” she said. This is Barbie’s world, and she’s living it to the fullest.

Pink carpet

But what about the plot? It’s been kept under wraps like the ultimate surprise present. However, the recent trailer has given us a sneak peek into the adventures of Barbie, played by the fabulous Margot Robbie, and Ken, played by none other than Ryan Gosling. They are stepping out of Barbieland and diving into the real world.

This stellar film boasts a star-studded cast including Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Dua Lipa, Helen Mirren, and more. With this line-up and a world drenched in an ocean of pink, it’s bound to be a roller-coaster of fun, fashion, and fabulousness.

So, as July 21st approaches, and the world gears up to put on their pink glasses, we are left with one burning question: Are you ready to step into Barbie’s outrageously pink world?
