Everything we know about ‘The Walking Dead’ spinoff ‘A New World’

After countless seasons of The Walking Dead and the franchise reaching a global network of fans, AMC has announced yet another spinoff to the undead franchise: A New World. Slowly but surely, more information is being released about this new show.

As the creators of TWD and the whole universe announce this new show, they have also announced a film! The feature is planned for a release late next year and will focus on Rick Grimes, so it looks like Andrew Lincoln is making a comeback. With their plans to keep expanding this universe, the franchise is gonna infect everyone.

There aren’t too many details circling about A New World, but we’re able to confirm that its release is coming on AMC next spring. A new teaser shows some of the cast, even though it’s only 30 seconds long – but it has spurred a lot of intrigue and kept everyone guessing.

What sort of story can we expect in A New World?

This third installment in the franchise is intended to focus on a generation of children who have been raised in the apocalyptic universe of The Walking Dead. If you’re a TWD fan, imagine a bunch of Carls and Lizzies leading their own show. Looking at previous seasons of The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, we’re expecting tears, walkers, and a whole lot of drama in A New World

The teaser directs its attention to us, the audience, rather than the actual premise of A New World – probably because the scripts are still in development. It opens with a hard-hitting question: “What if you grew up in a world of safety?” The show is driving home that these kids are growing up in an alternate reality from our own, a world in which there have always been zombies.

Who’s behind A New World?

Familiar faces are gracing the production team of A New World: Scott M. Gimple, current executive producer for both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, is going to be heading up A New World. TWD Producer Matthew Negrete will be the executive producer for the show.

Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, best known for his work on Kong: Skull Island, will be taking on A New World. But let’s hope the jump from King Kong himself to zombies isn’t too far, and he ends up sprinting from the walkers. (He’s been known not to take criticism well.)

Who will be the stars of A New World?

Nico Tortorella (Younger) has been announced as the protagonist, described as honorable and unafraid of fighting for those he cares about and what is right. But the A New World teaser has confirmed other cast members as well.

Annet Mahendru, fresh off a phenomenal performance as Nina in The Americans, will be joining alongside Alexa Mansour (Unfriended: Dark Web) and newcomer Aliyah Royale. Their characters in A New World haven’t been announced yet, but we’ll let you know more when we find out.

The characters within this third franchise have been discussed by AMC and according to sources, A New World will include two young female protagonists in this battle between good and evil against the backdrop of the zombie apocalypse.

When will A New World air on AMC?

Luckily, we do not have too long to wait as AMC have confirmed that we can watch A New World in Spring 2020. We’re still on the fence about whether The Walking Dead has jumped the shark – but we’ll still watch this upcoming spinoff with interest.
